The McCain thread got me thinking about that too...

of course, do you think he even voted for * the first time?

I doubt he'll vote the same again, and if Democrats win back the Senate..Chaffee shall be the first to switch parties.

4. i think so, also chafee said he hasn't ruled out switching

during jim jeffords switch chafee was asked about it also and he said he hasn't ruled out switching his party. this much more than mccain has done so far, but chafee actually has a liberal record so it's not surprising either. i only want him to switch if it can turn the balance of power to democrats as jeffords did.

He agrees with Kerry a heck of a lot more than with Shrub.

The Repubs used to have many moderate & liberals in their party, but today the few left are treated pretty badly.

I disagree.

The Republicans learned their lesson after Jeffords. They learned that they could not ignore the centrists in their party if they wanted to be a viable party, so they have not been as hard as they were on Snowe, Chafee, etc.

The Democrats also need to learn that adopting a purity test for some Democrats is not a good strategy. We need the center AND the left in our party, just like the Republicans realized that they need some center and some right in their party.

Isn't this statement backwards? At least Democrats treated the Republicans better as a minority party, today if Democrats don't agree those members get slapped in the face and labeled as traitors..not respect.

vote for Kerry, but votes are (fortunately) a private matter...and I think this speculation on how one votes is sorta pointless.

I also find it unlikely that Chafee will campaign for Bush, not that it makes any difference, considering Rhode Island had one of the biggest margins of victory for Gore in '00.
