Deficit grows - Million a Minute!
Is this a sound byte we can use?

There's 1440 minutes in a day, 525,600 minutes a year. The deficit this year is $521 billion. $991,248 a minute. Almost a million a minute. That's astounding! Get this on Lou Dobbs!

1. Yes, that is astounding.
Also very depressing... But haven't you heard? As a % of GDP, that is a very small number. Sigh...

2. % of GDP nonsense

That's just the Right's rationalization why deficits and fiscal irresponsibility don't matter any more. But then the rabid Right is trying to destroy New Deal programs like Social Security... and what better way than to make it difficult for the government to pay back all those SS IOUs?

7. The more things change
the more they stay the same. Most of the good stories on Kerry are still ignored. Unless he's saying something totally outrageous, nobody pays attention. And then everybody wonders why that's all cablenews bothers to show. Gee. Nobody pays attention to anything else.

8. I am so sick of people saying hes a Bush lackey
I have evidence from last year that said he only voted with Bush 30% of the time, and I shared this around and people gave him a hard time because he wasnt there for all his votes. Its pretty conveient when your past candiate wasnt a legislator, its politics I know but its annoying, I finally found just evidence. Sorry for ranting, just having frustrations.

9. It's disheartening
It's bad enough when you have to fight stupid stuff from the right, but when you have to fight your own party too, it can really take it out of you completely. I should probably remind myself more often that most people miss 95% of what happens in an election anyway!

10. I am gonna feel better when Bush loses
It is tough coming from your own party, thats prolly why it stings. When its the right, youre like whatever :), but with your own party, youre like come on guys.

11. ~
I read this and then went to www.brillig.com where there is a national debt clock. I go there every once in a while. Today it says the debt is growing by 2 Billion dollars per day since Sept 30, 2003. I was sure that was a typo at the site, so I sent an email. They wrote back, said nope no typo.

On reflection, of course, they're right. I'm becoming inured to the insane numbers - $500+ billion deficit just rolls right off my brain.

as a nation, we are so fucked.
