Amid Natural Splendor in Idaho, a Weary Kerry Gets Away From It All
Great photo of Kerry snowboardin'

KETCHUM, Idaho, March 18 - John Kerry was in the air, approaching the Continental Divide, and the candidate often ridiculed as straddling both sides of political divides was wrestling with the big matter at hand.

Should he ski, or snowboard? Or maybe both? He gave no clue where he stood. But that was Wednesday night.

A longtime adviser recently suggested that there were two John Kerrys: "indoor John and outdoor John" ? one who agonizes over decisions, and another who acts boldly on them.

It was outdoor John, decidedly so, who emerged from an armored S.U.V. at the foot of Bald Mountain here on Thursday morning, outfitted in blue ski gear and swigging from a bottle of vitamin-fortified water. From the rear of the vehicle he pulled a weathered old snowboard, and for most of the day proceeded to zigzag down what locals affectionately call Mount Baldy.

1. Idaho is a beautiful state
It's too bad that there are so many Republicans there.

4. This is a perfect example of how a report can be slanted to show

a candidate in an unfavorable light. It's exactly the kind of writing they did with Gore. Notice the snipey comments "outfitted in blue ski gear and swigging from a bottle of vitamin-fortified water." What does that sentence say to you? (rich guy who "swigs" and has "special" water that's vitamin fortified, not ordinary bottled stuff like the "average guy" drinks). (This whole article is filled with sentences designed to help the reader see that Kerry is rich, privileged and doesn't live like you and me).

This article is a total smear from beginning to end and if you read it and look at the sentences describing what Kerry was doing you will see the picture the writer is painting of Kerry.

We are going to see alot of this stuff written. But, Kerry needs to be more careful in how he presents himself, too. This "super jock" stuff is not going to appeal to many Democrats who feel this is such a serious time. He doesn't need to overdo it.

6. Super Jock thing appeals to me
and my 89 yr mom, whats wrong with it? At least he's not playing cowboy rancher! How wierd are we becoming that everything is turned into a political sideshow or debate. I think we all ought to get real, Kerry has a right to his fun and sport as anyone else. I like to see that side of him, he's not a phony!!
