An important thing being forgotten in the presidential talk. . .
Don't forget that Election 2004 is about more than just the presidency. Even if Kerry loses, we still have the opportunity to score a major victory IF we play our cards right. . .

Battle for control of the Senate shaping up as a close race

WASHINGTON - In a new and surprising shift of fortune, Democrats have a chance to win back control of the Senate this year.

Victory is still an uphill climb for them. But if they can hold some of five Southern seats where veteran Democrats are retiring and pick up a couple more in states where Republicans are stepping down, such as Colorado, Illinois and Oklahoma, they could eke out a narrow majority and reclaim the control they lost in 2002.

Though overshadowed by the presidential campaign, the contest for control of the Senate will have major consequences for whoever wins the White House, particularly if it's President Bush. A Democratic Senate would have virtual veto power over his agenda, from new tax cuts to appointments to the federal judiciary.

1. I'm so not getting my hopes up for this...
Not to be a naysayer, but since 2000 I've gotten my hopes up every single time that we could pull out more seats and every time not only have we not, but we've lost seats. Were it not for Jim Jeffords there would have been no bright spots on the congressional front since 11/00.

2. Oh, wouldn't that be sweet?
To win the WH & take the Senate?

A lady just called into C-Span & said with the Repubs in charge of the WH, Senate, House, & Judiciary, the lunatics are running the insane asylum!

4. The House of Representatives is more important
Unfortunately, we're going to have to wait at least 10 years before we get a majority in that - or at least have a chance to.

The best we can hope to do is break even in the senate and let the VP be the tie-breaker.
