Dear Senator Edwards
I supported you, contributed a modest amount to your campaign, was thrilled to shake your hands and elated when you won my and the neighboring caucus... even though while we were caucusing you withdrew from the race.

I posted the following thoughts on your web page:

Do not accept the vice presidential nominee, IF you are thinking of running for president some day in the future. History has shown us that the road to the White House does not go through the office of the Vice President. In most recent history, only one sitting Vice President - the first Bush - won the race, and he lasted only one term. There is a simple reason for this: for four or eight years the Vice President is supposed to be in the shadow of the President, to carry what is asked for, to speak only when spoken to.

Then, all of a sudden, in a period of one year, the shadowy person is expect to go out in front, to present a dynamic, exciting leader, with new ideas who can mobilize the voters. This does not work. Plus, any scandal associated with the White House - and there always at least one - will stick to the Vice President, too.

Senator Edwards, you are young and can wait to 2012 or, if the worst happens, to 2008 to run as your own man.

And now I can add one more reason: while still in the race you went on record to say that you were not running for Vice President; there are many video clips showing you saying this. Now, if you will be asked and accept the nomination, the pugs will have one more "flip flop" to throw our way.

1. NO!
compared to the flip flops that this bastard administration did that not only cost people's their life, but potentially can destroy the very fabric of our democracy. If it is deemed that Edwards will bring more to the ticket than detract he should definitely accept. In fact, during the final debate Edwards did not rule out being the Vice President.

I am not sure where you are coming from, but the reason the first bush only lasted one term was because he LIED! It runs in their family!!

2. Edwards NOW
We need a winning ticket.
The alternative is just too horrible to think about.

4. If he is asked...
...it means Kerry and the Democratic Party believes he is what they need to win the White House.

That is MUCH more important than John Edwards' future designs on the White House.

If he is asked, he MUST accept.

5. Please John Edwards...
Don't accept the VP position if offered. We want to win overwhelmingly this election!

We need to shore up John Kerry's weak flank....that would be national security. He doesn't need someone to talk domestic policies....John Kerry already outpolls Bush in that area.

We need the Security Moms' votes (formerly Soccer moms)...they want to feel safe and sound.

The April Marist poll showed that the issue of National Security tops the concerns of 53% of Americans (the War on Terra (33%) and the Iraq Situation (20%)) while the economy is at 44% http://www.maristpoll.marist.edu/usapolls/PZ040426.htm

We need the Nascar Dads' votes......they want someone tough, hard and masculine to vote for.

"but support from women is not Kerry's biggest problem. Closing the male side of the gender gap is." http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4863243 /

We want the Veterans' and their families votes....those that want Kerry....and those that have problems with his antiwar protest history.....

The three sets of voters are comprised of millions and may not vote for Kerry....unless the right VP is chosen..... and you on the ticket will not help.

6. If Kerry asks, of course he'll accept. It's Kerry's call. A great team!
Love the "energy crisis solution".

8. LBJ was VP who became P. We all know Gore really won too.
And Lieberman started as the early favorite for P in most states (and it's no surprise he didn't capitalize on the advantage).

I'm not sure if anything more than superstition informs the judgment that VPs don't become Ps. It obviously creates advantages for the VP.

There's also due theory. It's time for the VP to become P.

Saying you're not running for VP, by the way, isn't the same thing as saying you wouldn't accept it. He's clearly on record as saying he'll do whatever he can to get Kerry elected, and accepting VP nod clearly falls in that category.

9. What does it matter to Edwards if he is V.P. or President, if
can help this nation to get out of the mess it is in, I don't think Edwards thinks in that matter. I think he is after making this nation a better place to live and bringing back the econom of Bill Clinton, while solving the mess in Iraq. I sure hope he will take the spot.
