I just saw on CNSNews.com that there is going to be a news
conference on Tuesday where hundreds of Vietnam vets will say that Kerry is not fit to be commader-in-chief. I tried to put this on the latest breaking news, but the moderator said that it was an inappropriate source. The substance of the article is below:

"Kerry 'Unfit to be Commander-in-Chief', Say Former Military Colleagues
(CNSNews.com) - Hundreds of former commanders and military colleagues of presumptive Democratic nominee John Kerry are set to declare in a signed letter that he is "unfit to be commander-in-chief." They will do so at a press conference in Washington on Tuesday.
'What is going to happen on Tuesday is an event that is really historical in dimension,' John O'Neill, a Vietnam veteran who served in the Navy as a PCF (Patrol Craft Fast) boat commander, told CNSNews.com . The event, which is expected to draw about 25 of the letter-signers, is being organized by a newly formed group called Swift Boat Veterans for Truth."

When the moderator of latest breaking news says that CNSNews.com is an inappropriate source, I am not sure what the moderator means. Is the moderator saying that the CNSNews.com report is factually suspect, that is, there is not going to be a news conference? Or is the moderator saying that CNSNews.com doesn't have the requisite editorial board? Or just what? Although this is the first time I have encountered it, CNSNews.com appears to me to be the typical right wing extremist site with the corresponding bias. One would never use it as an opinion source, that is, an interpreter of facts. But what about a factual source concerning facts which can be easily verified?

The CNSNews.com article appears to be problematic for Kerry. If true, it is important breaking news. It shows how nasty things are going to get (as if we didn't know already).

Forget the source. My question is: Does anyone know whether there is actually going to be a press conference on Tuesday dissing Kerry?

2. Recheck Your Story
It's "John O'Neill," Republican puppet, that's setting this up.

It's a continuation of the non-story because Bush is dipping in the polls, and he has to try and divert attention from the Iraqi prisoner story and the Joe Wilson book and the possible interest rate hike and the ongoing parade of death in etc., etc., etc.

In other words, chill.

5. Who cares what they think?
John O'neil has hated John Kerry for the past 3 decades.

I wish we'd just ignore stories posted at Drudge.

7. There is no end to the ability of the repug party to
brain wash the public into thinking whatever
repugs want them to think. They are now going
to take one of Kerry's greatest strengths (his
honorable military service) and turn it into
a negative in the publics eyes.

When is the democratic leadership going to do
something about the dirty tricks of the repug
party?

The repug party owns the media....

10. So what?

I agree -- this is a non-story. I can't see this being "historically significant in its dimensions" as O'Neill sort of puts it, simply because out of the "hundreds" of signers, he'll only be able to scrape up maybe 25 of them for this press conference.

I'm guessing it is just so much bluster, and I would love to see one reporter build up enough of a backbone to ask O'Neill's Flying Circus what they think makes Shrub fit to be a commander-in-chief.

Let's face it: Shrub's performance so far has been, shall we say, less than stellar, and this putz thinks Kerry would be worse? Let the whiny little man put on his "show and tell," and we'll all laugh at him.

The guy running this is a rightwing hack.

Check out this article on him: http://www.salon.com/opinion/conason/2004/04/23/o_neill/index.html

"The GOP's not-so-impartial hit man
Desperate to denigrate John Kerry's war record, Republicans have trotted out a "nonpartisan" Navy Vietnam vet -- who was a protege of Nixon dirty trickster Charles Colson and whose law firm is closely tied to the Bush White House."

Where was Bush during 'Nam?

12. let me break it down for you
Edited on Mon May-03-04 11:26 AM by mharris660
first your post says,

"conference on Tuesday where hundreds of Vietnam vets.."

then later you say,

"The event, which is expected to draw about 25..."

See, thats whats "problematic" for me, which is it? Will only 25 of the so-called attendee's sign the "letter"?

Theres a good reason the mods didn't allow you to post, its called crap news.

on edit:

"CNSNews.com provides excellent background, context, history and analysis about the events of the day. They also break new ground on stories that mainstream journalists don't cover."
-- Rush Limbaugh

"CNSNews.com gives me the tools to keep my listeners informed."
-- Michael Reagan

now theres a "fair and balanced team for ya.

Yeah this is the same "media" outlet that reported:

"Yes, dear reader, statistically you have a better chance of being shot to death in Washington, D.C., than you do in Baghdad. So, the next time your local daily or nightly TV news trumpets the number of US battle casualties in Iraq, you should probably give some thought to wearing a bulletproof vest if you plan to visit the Lincoln Memorial"

14. I saw that posting elsewhere here.
That started me rechecking my notes. CNS News has the surface appearance of a "mainstream conservative" site, but it's an ideology mill of the FAR right. It's bankrolled by the same types (Scaife et al) who bankroll NewsMax & WND. As for "opinions", it's as unreliable as can be.

There's an EXTREME rightwing whacko on my union BBS, who used to quote from it religiously. I checked it out and typed: "right to work" into the site's search engine. I got back a deluge of cites; all PRO right to work, and many sourced directly from the National Right To Work Committee. Use that search engine and key in some buzz-words, and you'll see what I mean.

I hesitate to say: "Don't read it! it's far-right CRAP!", but it certainly does NOT pass the Smell Test. I believe there's supposed to be such a "media event" in DC, but it'll no doubt be on the order of that Freeper "counter-demonstration" in DC last year. (A Porta-Pottie for every 5 participants; 3 in all?). These types talk BIG, and they've probably got private arsenals that'll make your head spin. But when it comes to "getting out in the public commons", they don't make such an impressive showing. And many are wannabe warriors (aka: Chicken-Hawks).

15. Organized Republican smear attacks are old news.
But it does give Kerry yet another opportunity to contrast his record against the chickenhawk flock. I wonder how many medals (minus Powell) this admnistration has earned, collectively?

I checked the "Cyber News" website and it is a heavily Repug site which translates roughly into no credibility whatsoever.
