A good sign as to why Bayh probably won't be VP
Kerry isn't bothering one bit with Indiana. If he was going to pick Bayh with hope of swinging Indiana (which wouldn't happen), I think he would at least be running some ads to keep it from falling too far into *'s column. But he seems to be totally ignoring it now.

I've said it before and'll say it again, any Kerry campaign or DNC staffer who is pushing Bayh for VP needs to be fired immediately.

1. I agree
Evan Bayh won't be Kerry's running mate--due to the fact that he can't deliver Indiana. I think it will be Gephardt because Kerry will think that he might be able to deliver Missouri--a key swing state which narrowly went for Bush in 2000--but I think that is debatable.

4. Josh Marshall
says the short list is Gephardt, Edwards, and Richardson. But he's leaning toward Edwards, (my favorite.):toast:

11. Don't think it will be Gephardt or Richardson.
Richardson would serve the party best by remaining as Governor.
Gephardt.... naahhh -- let him be Labor Secretary

Edwards is in the running but open to other possibilities.

8. Yes, Palmieri will be Kerry's press person in Ohio.

I read it in the WaPo this morning, but could not find a link on their website. I'll copy:

Page A4 - Politics, by Brian Faler

THOSE WHO COULDN'T BEAT HIM JOIN HIM

-snip-

Team Kerry, in particular, has recruited heavily from the defunct Edwards campaign. The new Kerry hires include Miles Lackey, Edwards' chief of staff, who will serve as a deputy campaign manager in charge of Kerry's policy-development team and speechwriting.

-snip-

Also from Edwards, press secretary JENNIFER PALMIERI, who will do that job for Kerry in Ohio.

****
Several others named in article, and recap of other hires from Dean, etc.

12. I've said it before and I'll say it again
Any Democrat who is against Bayh for VP is a complete and utter idiot. This a young, charismatic family man who has won several landslide victories in a solid Republican state. And even if he doesn't deliver Indiana he'll help a lot in neighboring Ohio; Bush simply cannot win without Ohio.
