Poll question: do you live in a district with a Dem or GOP congress person?
I thought it would be interesting to find out how many of us live in a congressional district with a Democratic or Republican congressman? Feel free to tell us who it is if you wish.

I'm lucky I live in Madison and my representative is Tammy Baldwin.

82. until 2000 .....
census and the subsequent redistricting, my area always had a republican representative. but peter king no longer covers my area, instead we are represented by steve israel.
btw long island which for a long time was a republican bastion, now has two democratic county leaders, 4 out of 5 house members are democrats and the nassau legislature is a democratic majority.

and in nassau republicans still out number registred democrats by about a 4 to 3 majority.

Seriously though, his opponent is extreme right enough to cause HERSELF problems. Chet also has a huge $ advantage, and she came out of a very nasty primary battle, but unfortunately Club for Growth will be chipping in for her. All told though, I would say that things are looking significantly better than they were 3 months ago. That said, it will still be tough.

He does not represent me, I can assure you. At least he's better than my former so-called representative, Bob Livingston, king of the hypocrites. Better in that he sends me less blowhard mailings and hasn't yet been caught paying for S&M antics. Not that I necessarily think there's anything wrong with S&M antics, but I don't see why I should be pelted with all sorts of holy roller wingnut blowhard propaganda mailed at taxpayer's expense by someone indulging in that sort of thing with a paid performer not his wife.

63. Stephen Lynch (D)
9th Congressional District, Massachusetts.

The 9th is a strange district- it runs through South Boston, and then west through southeastern Massachusetts, but it clips a number of upscale suburban communities whose politics are more socially progressive.

We had Joseph Moakley (D) for many years, who was also a old-time Southie Democrat: socially conservative, but liberal on just about everything else. When he passed away, it marked the first time that the seat would genuinely be up-for-grabs.

Two socially-progressive Democrats ended up splitting the vote (Jacques and Joyce), and Lynch won the primary. Interestingly, the primary was held on September 11th; we may never know how that may have affected turnout in the suburbs.

Anyway, the Republican didn't have a prayer in the general election. I anticipate that the Southie political machine will ensure that Stephen Lynch remains our Representative for a long, long time.

Illinois, 14th Cong. District. And all the fools just love him around here. Call him "da coach". I knew his predecessor -- a smart politician who wooed Dems as well as Repubs, a gentleman and very leery of the neo-con Republicans which were fairly new to the scene before Hastert. He passed away, and we ended up with Hastert, and that was the end of my flirtation with the Republicans.

75. Repuke....Jerry Weller.
I'm surrounded by repukes in my village. It's nightmarish and sad.

76. Standard Neocon Repuke who now wants to be a senator...
Luckilly Louisiana has a trend of keeping Republicans out of our US Senate seats.

81. Sherwood Bohlert (RINO)
Bohlert (Or "Sherry", as he's called) is a RINO. He's a pro-choice, anti-gun, pro-environment Republican. His district's 60% Republican, so he needs that little (R) next to his name to get re-elected. Sherry's been in the house for 20 years, and he's done a pretty good job. Occasionally, he has to give token kisses to the Republican administration, but that can easily be overlooked.

I'm just glad that the Republicans around here don't care enough to really look at a candidate's record, and just vote the party line. Sherry's not a Bush or Regan Republican. More like a...oh...Teddy Roosevelt Republican. :)
