Poll question: Would Rumsfeld's resignation help or hurt bush*?
bush* (aka the Fertilizer) has slapped Rummy on the wrist and said that he still stands behind Rummy

If bush*'s poll numbers take even more of a hit and he's forced to flip-flop on his "support" of Rummy -- would this hurt, help or make no difference with his poll numbers?

1. if he resigns, or is fired
Either way, it's going to hurt Bush, for one reason: He has to be replaced.

And that replacement has to be approved by Congress. And the debate over his replacement is going to become a debate over the entire Iraq war.

3. replacement is going to become a debate over the entire Iraq war
I tend to doubt that given the "debate" and "vote" in approving negroponte as ambassador to Iraq

vote results yesterday on negroponte's approval was 93-3, very little debate

2. Well, part of the problem with Bush...
...is that he never admits a mistake, even when glaringly obvious. They figure they'll just re-write history, coherce the media coverage or act as if all is as it should be and was planned to be. If he fires Rumsfeld, it'll be an admission of error, one that casts a shadow on the Iraq war, the Afghan war, 9/11, and it'll also perhaps invite more scrutiny of his "inner circle", most potentially damning being Cheney the Shadow President himself.

It will depend on how many media whores have managed to grow teeth and some backbone. Only need a few to get the ball rolling downhill. Even now, as headlines speak of "Bush's tumbling poll numbers", they are always quick to follow up with, "but Kerry unable to capitalize on it..."

4. Will help wicket bush...
The media will painted as strong leadership again. Rumbutt will be replaced by a pretty face suitable for TV, and the media pretty boys will kiss his butt. Rumbutt will also be placed behind the scenes in the campaign, mostlikely, collecting more millions for bush.

But, wicket bush will have to fight off daDick because Rumbutt is daDick's piece of ass.

5. By November it would help
Show he is a big bad macho leader, right on top of situations, which we know is bullshit.

6. Help him because
Edited on Fri May-07-04 04:47 AM by Piperay
it would 'look' like they were doing something to rid the country of the sleaze and cleanse the atmosphere. Chimp is too dumb and too arrogant though to realize this and will most likely keep supporting 'rummy the dummy'. :silly:

7. obviously hurt
Rumsfeld is the face of the war. If he's forced out (as he should be) it would clearly hurt Bush. He'd have to admit to making a mistake, which he has shown is inherently against his nature.

That being said, I think he's gonna take the hit within 2 weeks. Rummy will resign soon. That's my prediction.

8. He will stay.
This is politics. If he is fired he will have to be replaced. A replacement will have to face Senate approval. Even Repuplicans want answers about this failed war. Bush cannot risk that.

9. I think it would help Bush
because it puts all the blame on Rumsfeld & gets Bush off the hook.

Bush should be held responsible.

Email the Senate Armed Services Committee members & tell them to find out What Bush knew & when he knew it?

10. well
if Rummy stays it shows that bush* is weak as far as being in "control" and handling the situation as it should be. Of course if Rummy goes, it might lead to another book that could backfire and REALLY hurt bush*. hmmmm ??
