Kucinich Boston Convention HQ Opens May 10

‘Aggressive’ plans to be unveiled

BOSTON -- Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, who has been promising supporters for months that he intends to take his campaign all the way to the Democratic National Convention in Boston, just moved closer to that goal.

When the Convention opens at the Fleet Center on July 26, Kucinich and his staff will be headquartered in offices near the Boston Common, about six minutes away. And the Kucinich convention team will be headed by Democratic convention veteran and long-time political activist Tim Carpenter.

“We intend to wage an aggressive campaign within the Democratic Party at the convention on issues like peace, health care, jobs and trade agreements, and civil liberties,” said Kucinich.

Kucinich said he will challenge the leadership of the Democratic Party on several fronts, foremost among them the war in Iraq. “The Party needs to take a strong stand on Iraq, which means ending the occupation and bringing our troops home. We will do everything in our power to deliver that message,” said Kucinich, the Congressman from Ohio who led the fight on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to oppose the 2002 war authorization resolution.

On Monday, at a combined headquarters-opening and news media briefing, Kucinich and his convention team will outline their plans “to move the Party in a new direction.” Kucinich, who will be campaigning in Oregon that day, will address his staff and speak with the news media via telephone.

Carpenter, 45, is the western Massachusetts director of the Clean Elections campaign. He also served as field organizer for Warren Tolman's 2002 gubernatorial campaign. He was a national delegate at three previous conventions and served in key positions in the presidential campaigns of Jesse Jackson (1988), Jerry Brown (1992), and Bill Clinton (1996). In 1992, he spoke from the podium at the national convention in New York City along with Hollywood film maker and author Oliver Stone. Over the years, Carpenter, a teacher, has been deeply involved in a variety of political and social issues, ranging from peace activism and nuclear disarmament to abolishing the death penalty and defending the homeless.

The new Kucinich headquarters office is at
59 Temple Place, Suite 449, in the central business district.
The grand opening event will from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The office phone number is (617) 542-3509. .

1. OK fine
Fight the good fight and stand up for what you believe, but when the convention is over and Kerry is formally nominated then it's time to support the nominee and work for the defeat of this Administration.

Why is Kucinich Going On to the Convention?

Congressman Kucinich has publicly stated that he will support the nominee - after the convention. Until then, he has promised to continue to give voice to those who long for issues that are not currently being addressed by the frontrunner.

Congressman Kucinich remains committed to being the voice for progressive democrats and all who care about issues such as single-payer universal health care, jobs and trade policies, the war in Iraq, the Patriot Act, and the need for a Department of Peace. Our Party must continue to debate these issues.

The Democratic Party needs every vote it can rally to defeat George W. Bush in November. We must stand for something that represents the values and the practical aspirations of American citizens. Kucinich provides the opportunity to work for these changes within the party. Without Kucinich in the race, many of our supporters would abandon the Democratic Party, risking a repeat of the disastrous 2000 election.

He is an oasis of hope in the bitter desert of a Democratic party that has long ago abandoned its once proud role as the Party of the People.

I am a Kucinich delegate to my state convention who will be working hard to be elected as a national delegate. If not for Kucinich, I wouldn't be making the effort.

All the great social changes in this country began with a dedicated few willing to brave the derision and hostility of the status quo to hold fast to their vision of a more enlightened social contract.

We are immeasurably blessed to have a standard-bearer within the Democratic party around whom to rally, and I care not one whit about all the negative bleating from those who have chosen to huddle safely within the confines of the herd.

BAAAAAHHHHH...

6. Glad to hear you're running SW!!!!!
I was thinking about it, but since I'm unemployed right now I can't afford to go as a delegate. However, I have decided to run for a director's position on the DFL board. I'm working on the questionaire right now!

I know that the MN contingent is going to get a bus to go out to the convention to participate in the other goings on that week, including the Boston Social Forum (www.bostonsocialforum.org). It should be a lot of fun!

FEAR ENDS. HOPE BEGINS.

7. I'm an alternate delegate, which means I have to support Kerry
at the convention. I'm still going to fight like hell for the resolutions, though!
