I just have to say it: Wes Clark and John Edwards would BOTH be great VPs!
I'm really getting tired of the few hardcore political 'snipers' here at DU who just can't seem to pass up a chance to crack one off in Sen. Edwards' or Gen. Clark's direction! Both of the individuals are fine men of great character, integrity and ability, and if either of them is offered the VP nomination, I will sing 'Hosana' to God Almighty!

Face it, folks, we don't have even ONE 'perfect' potential nominee, but we have SEVERAL outstanding ones, including both Sen. Edwards and Gen. Clark, so you 'snipers' out there please take this suggestion in the spirirt in which it is offered---

PUT A SOCK IN IT!

1. Yes!!! You talk about a win-win scenario...
I won't even mention my preference here -- that's contrary to the spirit of this thread.

Either one of these gentlemen would be an **enormous** asset to the ticket.

Thanks, Padraig18.

2. I agree
I could happily support either man as VP. They are both good men and would be wonderful VP nominees and good presidents if anything happens to President Kerry.

3. My dream ticket was Edwards-Clark...
I would prefer either of them for Kerry's VP far far above anyone else.

5. I agree. I would take either Clark or Edwards as the Veep
I think they would make this country proud and both would make a nice ticket along side Kerry.

6. I really don't know
what the argument is. I would be pleased with either of them as VP.

They both have their strengths and their weaknesses, but either would make a better choice than Gep or Bayh.

14. Or at least, if you want to advocate one or the other, phrase your ...
...argument in terms of "X is great because..." rather than "Y is bad because..."

16. heck, I can even tolerate "Y is bad because..." *IF*
facts & other solid evidence are provided and/or linked. With a few posters, this seems to be beyond their abilities.

What's tiresome and inappropriate for a Democratic discussion board is lying, repeating RW spin, negative opinions without basis, childish insults, etc.

17. Yes, the elusive "fact" based argument.
I know what you're saying.

I'm more than willing to enthusiastically engage in any criticism based on facts. Dialog can be fun, interesting and useful.

What isn't fun is having to deal with lies and spin. That's tedious.

19. They are both great
Edwards is the best stump speaker I've seen in years, and has charisma oozing out every pore.

Clark is a brilliant man who can help with anti-war lefties like me, and also military families.

He also bolsters Kerry's national security credentials.

20. Yes Padraig
I admit I am a Clark devotee. But--And--I'd be happy with any number of VP choices. I want victory in November, not internal sniping.

It is counterproductive to bash potential VP choices or their supporters needlessly.

21. I agree, and I don't envy John Kerry the task of choosing.
EXCEPT IF--and that's a big IF--the economy continues to "improve" while Iraq continues to circle the drain, then Wes is clearly the best choice.

Something else to consider: the Administration can doctor and spin the news about the economy to a large degree. I'm not so sure they can do that with Iraq.

OTOH, it's entirely possible that Iraq, no matter how FUBARed, will simply drop off the radar--at least as far as our media is concerned--after June 30th, and the economy will be THE issue in the last months before the election.

Like I said--I don't envy Kerry the job of choosing, but I certainly agree that it has to come down to The Good General and Johnny Sunshine. I can't really imagine anyone else being considered seriously for VP. Clark and Edwards are stars, each with his own large and vociferous following, and Kerry's far too experienced a pol to ignore that fact.

23. Well put. It's a very hard decision.
Clark and Edwards are both fantastic, each bringing different strenghts to the ticket.

I don't envy John Kerry having to choose.

25. Totally agree with you.
I really can't decide between them, because they're both so good. Honestly, I wanted Clark to win the nomination and get Edwards as his running mate. But where we are now, I can't decide who I'd rather have on Kerry's ticket.

26. So how about Kerry picks Clark as his VP now,
then in 2012 (or 2008 if cleaning up the BushCo Mess has left Kerry plumb tuckered out) Clark can tap Edwards as his veep?

But unfortunately neither of them guarantee any states. Granted there aren't that many VP picks who will.
