In-laws turn against Bush
This is very good news. On a Mother's Day call to Florida, my father-in-law brought up Iraq. They usually prefer not to talk about politics with us, in order to avoid controvery and disagreement. My father-in-law is moderately conservative and well informed. My mother-in-law is quite conservative but not really interested in politics or day to day world events. Therefore, having him bring it up, say that "It's looking like another Vietnam" and that it's a mess over there and..rimshot, that they will not be voting for Bush again and will be voting for Kerry, was a great piece of news.

we are hearing more and more stories like this. and as I speak with Repubs if they are still sticking up for Bushit, you can tell their hearts just aren't in it anymore.

4. don't forget that the electoral process is corrupted
and the media whores will continue to prop bush up.

it's amazing that bush is doing this badly considering all the crooked support he has.

12. Their hearts aren't
My father is a BIG Republican contributor so we have had quite a few heated discussions throughout the 1990's and up until about a month ago and he is done with Bush. He refuses to vote Kerry because he thinks Kerry would fuck up alot of things worse than Bush has, but he will not give Bush his vote and wants him gone. If any of you knew what it truly meant to hear him say this, I firmly believe that Bush is done. He rode the coat tails of 9/11 for far too long without showing this country anything.

5. Great news!
I think all we have to worry about is Nader, and perhaps the Greens if they run a candidate and split the progressive vote.

6. One more thing..
They don't have a computer. They get all their news from the major outlets. Local newspaper, network and CNN..maybe even some Fox. I'm not sure about the last. So, even with the very unhelpful media, it seems that you don't have to be on DU to know that the situation is very screwed up.

7. woo hoo
I love hearing about converts. Most conservatives that I know are still mindlessly towing the line. Almost as if they need to be "deprogrammed" rather than convinced...
Anyhow All the converts in the world wont make a whit of difference when the government is a hairs breadth away from being able to tell you HOW you voted AFTER you voted without benefit of a recount.

Find out if electronic voting machines will be used in your area, if so vote absentee, create a paper trail and make sure your vote is counted.

13. I did too - although I think Kevin Phillips has said (in his book) that
bush has one aunt who is a liberal.

9. I think alot of people feel like them
In talking with coworkers it seems like alot of people are fed up. I work in banking/finance & alot of folks I know voted bush last time b/c of the alleged "tax cuts" and alleged "class warfare" . . . I'm hearing lots of griping about the warmongering & right wing b.s. that is giving them second thoughts ever voting for him again.

Most coworkers are pretty non-political, but I think Bush got pretty much all of the votes last time around because of thinking like this "Gore says he's gonna tax the rich & he thinks that you are rich if you make 50k so I'll vote for bush because Gore will screw me"

Just my 2 cents (& I do live in GA which is pretty conservative) but I think if Kerry avoids the 'people vs. the powerful' rhetoric & acts Presidential he could get alot of these yuppie's votes this time around.

Yuppie bankers aside, I think the whole thing will really come down to if working class people in the swing states from PA south to MO vote their pocket books (Kerry) or Guns God & Gays (bush).

Time will tell & it's gonna be a fun year

10. torment them by saying 'we're stuck with bushinc and better
get USED TO IT! Tell them the time to act was last year, when millions of americans marched in opposition to the lunacy.....now removing bushinc from power would literally cost large numbers of lives, cuz the busheviks have been planning the destruction of the US democracy for years!
tell them bushinc has always despised and feared only one thing: their damn fool american supporters!
then lol....!

11. Florida, huh?
You may want to mention to your in-laws that it's become very difficult to vote if you plan on voting Democratic. I've heard many complaints on Air America Radio about that state.

For further information, you might want to go to Randi Rhode's web site.
