Nader Misses Texas Ballot Requirement, Sues
Edited on Tue May-11-04 12:52 AM by Mobius
AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) - Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader sued Texas on Monday after failing to collect the signatures required to put him on the state's presidential ballot.
Nader's suit against Texas' secretary of state came after his campaign did not collect the required 64,076 signatures in time to meet a 5 p.m. CDT deadline on Monday. The figure is one percent of all votes cast for president in Texas in 2004.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Austin, charges that Texas' ballot access law is unconstitutional because it sets stricter standards for independent candidates than it does for third-party challengers.
For example, third-party candidates are given 75 days to collect nearly 20,000 fewer signatures required for inclusion on the ballot, the suit says. Nader had 60 days to collect his signatures.

2. Standard procedure
The rule is in place to prevent no name instigators off of the ballot. The reason it is easier for third parties to gain ballot access is that they have a more organized campaign and a bloc of voters who will support them, thus they aren't just some nameless jerk putting his name on the ballot just to fuck with the people and inflate his ego.

5. What is up with Nader anyway?
Edited on Tue May-11-04 01:04 AM by The Shadow
Ralph Nader is so stuck on himself that he fails to see that nobody (except repugs) wants him to run. He is nothing more than a distraction and a diversion that will ultimately cost the Democrats votes in November for a totally lost, self indulgent cause.
That piece of crap knows full well the ramifications of his actions and what it could mean to the elections, and guess what he doesn't care. He knows full well that the only votes he will affect are some Dems and Independents, not republicans. He is self serving at best. Jerk!!!!

Hell, besides that I could have come up with that many signatures in my own state if I had 60 days... and nobody knows who the hell I am.

Jeez! ralphie if you are so popular... what gives... you idiot!
