It gives Bushco more time to use his warchest. I don't get it.

1. somebody had to set a date first and the dems were it
Bush is really wishing at this point they hadn't set it up to use NYC around the 9-11 anniversary now i think

4. I was really hoping that Rove screwed up putting the convention in NYC...
How dare these bastards try to capitalize on 9-11? They keep bringing it up, put the convention in NYC around 9-11 to capitalize on it, but if the Dems say one thing, it's POLITICS!!!

I hope the protests are on every TV in America (but even if they are, America will be watching Survivor or American Idol...)

9. What if the protests backfire?
Make us all seem like anti-american whack-jobs? ISn't this a legit concern?

2. Methinks traditionally the challenger's party always goes first.
Check out all previous Presidential election years and you'll see what I mean.

3. RNC doesnt need the time because the platform/candidates are
mostly all set. DNC, needs to have theirs early to get everything in place to start the true onslaught.

6. Also, the debates
I fully expect that Bush will avoid debating Kerry. The late convention date allows him to plead pressing issues, other commitments, etc. to avoid a televised debate. Also, the RNC is aware that most swing voters make up their minds after September, so they want the convention to give Bush a boost at this time.

7. traditionally
the out party holds their convention in July and the in party holds their convention in August. Bush really pushed his back and into September to try and cash in on 9/11 in NYC--but it is going to backfire.

8. The GOP Broke the Rules
by setting their convention so late. A convention always gives a candidate a bump, and a bump closer to the election is a political edge. They also wanted to play on Sep 11 -- it remains to be seen whether that will be an advantage.

Actually, there's nothing preventing the Republicans holding a convention in September, but they won't officially have a candidate until well past the date to get on the ballot in many states. I was hoping some states would refuse to change the deadline and leave Bush off the ballot, but as far as I know all states are acquiescing.
