By the way, are the Democrats running anyone against Bush?
This might be a good time to have a candidate. There's a lot going on, and a Democrat running for president might help reinforce some of the concerns we're all having about the war in Iraq. I mean, if there's someone out there who's going to run, we should put him out now, so he could give our side to the issues rather than let Bush get all the spotlight. I'd be more than happy to support a Democratic candidate because we'll only beat Bush if someone runs against him. Any ideas?

Sounds like a 19th century politician. Seems to be having a lot of trouble generating much excitement.

I thought they were looking for someone with a little less stage presence that Colmes so that Hannity will come off better.

Many of us are feeling we have no one who speaks to our concerns in this race.

Or if he's there, we can't hear him. His voice is tentative and diffident.

15. Psst...
His voice is that boring buzz you can kinda, sorta, maybe hear that sounds rather "conservative".

You have to listen very hard to hear it. But if you do, it might put you to sleep.

20. THANK YOU. Seen his commercials in MN yet?
For some stupid reason, he's concentrating on those "touchy-feely" "I was born on an Army base" commercials that feature everybody just gushing over what a swell fella he is.

Of course, there's not ONE MENTION of his stand on ANY ISSUE. NOT ONE.

These commercials are in heavy rotation in MN, and they do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to help Kerry's position. Hell, Kerry supposedly won this state, but I have yet to see any sort of campaign "presence" here, other than the buttons on the lapel of nearly every party hack in the state. The only people who seem excited about the election are the Deanites and Kucitizens, who have directed their energies toward local races.

Kerry not being Bush will get him 45% of the vote-- which probably will not be enough to win this year. He needs to start SPEAKING UP and articulating whatever "vision" he has if he wants to get a winning margin.

"But Bush is destroying himself". If he is, he's doing a horseshit job of it. Despite the fiasco in Iraq, Shrub is still polling within the margin of error with Kerry. This war is getting worse by the hour, and if Kerry doesn't define himself as the opposite of Bush, somebody else (like Nader) will.

Kerry is making the same stupid cocky mistakes Gore made in 2000. He comes off as arrogant, aloof, and cannot articulate his vision for the future of this country-- other than being "not Bush". His foreign policy vision is essentially that of Bush, but without as many pre-emptive wars. His "free trade" economic policies will do little to help American workers, but will be a boon for corporate America. His healthcare plan is an even bigger mess, with a bunch of band aids applied to a severed head.

If this is how Kerry is going to "win", I'm even more afraid of how he'll "lose".

Us here feel he is doing a fine job.He is leading in all the polls at the moment(except Utah and who cares about Utah?) What more do you want? Sreaming and anger have already demolished one candidate and we don't need that to happen in the general election. Maybe some people can only hear when you scream!

11. Yes. A brilliant man named John Kerry
He's a war hero who led the fight against the failed Vietnam War incurring the personal wrath of Nixon. His twenty plus years in the Senate honed his political skill, and allowed him a chance to fight for Liberal causes such as gay rights, health care reform, environmental protection, fair taxation, and much more. Right now he has raised a buttload of money, which he is soon to strategically dump into key battleground states building up his national image in a series of excellent positive campaign ads. This is a much smarter strategy than needlessly going negative on * at a time when reality is negative enough. You will be seeing more of him soon, as the convention is just a few months away, and after that the general election will really kick in. If you can stand to stomach FOX, I've been told Kerry did an appearance on HANNITY and colmes tonight, you might be able to catch the repeat.

To learn more about our next President, or to see the campaign ads you're not seeing if you don't live in a battleground state, go to

12. Kerry does not need to make a lot of news right now.
Did you see Bill Cristol on the Daily Show totally demoralized and barely able to muster a reason to vote for Bush? Have you heard Senate and House Republicans wondering if this war is winnable after all? The cabal would love for Kerry to give them something to chew on right now. Some kind of distraction is just what they need. Kerry's got plenty of time to vie for the spotlight, but right now it's shining right where it belongs. This election is going to be about Bush and Bush is doing great by Kerry right now.

17. I think the real question is, will people vote democrat X over Bush...
If that seems to be the case then I don't see any reason for Kerry to define himself. No need to make promises during the campaign, that only means you have to keep those promises when in office. If Kerry wins without having to make direct promises to the center, then he can push for a more progressive agenda while in office.

30. policy statements are a good start, but what about the "vision thing"?
I have yet to hear Kerry clearly enunciate his vision for the country. And please-- don't direct me to his issues pages on his web site. Those are his positions, but what is his VISION?

The best candidates don't get elected for just their positions on the issues-- the get elected because they have a VISION of what they want the country to be. THAT is what inspires voters, and gets disaffected voters to the polls.

FDR had one. So did JFK. Ronald Reagan had one, too. Even that twisted little peckerwood in the White House has one, too, as sick as it is.

Other than "I am not George W. Bush", what IS John Kerry's vision?

Kerry Calls Iraq War a Failure

The Associated Press
Wednesday, May 12, 2004; 4:00 PM
ORLANDO, Fla. - Presidential candidate John Kerry said Wednesday the war in Iraq is a failure and that a shake-up is needed to end the Bush administration's mistakes and incompetence, a sharp critique that sparked more Republican criticism that the Democrat is making the war a political issue.

"Why should we reward more of the same? Why should we reward miscalculations of what it would take to make the peace?" Kerry asked in an interview with Associated Press Radio. "I think that it's been one miscalculation after another, frankly. And arrogance that has lost America respect and influence in the world."

Although Kerry has spent the week promoting his health care proposals, including allowing Americans to buy prescription drugs in Canada....

29. Kerry Shifts Campaign Focus from Iraq to Economy
LAS VEGAS (Reuters) - Democratic White House hopeful John Kerry on Sunday offered a populist economic agenda of middle-class growth and opportunity as an alternative to President Bush's "special favors" for the wealthiest Americans.

Kicking off a three-day swing through Nevada, Kansas and Oregon with a speech to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters annual conference in Las Vegas, Kerry hoped to refocus the campaign on the economy and other domestic issues.

His chosen messages of the past two weeks -- education and health care -- were often muted by the news from Iraq: an abuse scandal at a U.S.-run prison in Abu Ghraib and the beheading of an American civilian.

In his remarks to the 1.4 million-member Teamsters union, Kerry did not mention Iraq by name, but paid tribute to U.S. troops "over there doing their duty today." His themes were jobs, health care, taxes and trade.
