2. I wanted to, but couldn't.
Don't get me wrong... I love Clark. And I wanted him for President. But after reading Waging Modern War and his recent white-paper, Broken Engagement, I really want him to be Secretary of State. I'm convinced there's no one who could better represent America to the rest of the world, interface with international representatives, and bring the concerns of the rest of the world back to America's attention. His political and military analytical skills give me friggin' goose-bumps!

'Nuff said.

4. Either Job is Fine with Me!
I think that he MUST be a part of a Kerry administration! The attraction of Clark to me is that he'd absolutely HUMILIATE sneer in a VP debate!

10. You gotta look at the big picture
I agree that Clark would make a superlative Secretary of State. But a few points to consider:

Clark will not be in ANY administration, in any capacity, if Kerry doesn't win this election. Things are starting to look good right now, but we can't afford to be complacent. You KNOW the Rovians have a major "October surprise" planned. Maybe several. And don't forget Saddam's trial has been scheduled for a quick hanging in about that time frame. Even now, most Americans think Bush is best at fighting terrorism, as absurd as that is. What if there's another attack? What if there's a staged attack that Bush deftly thwarts? We MUST take away the "war president" image and Clark's the best guy to help Kerry do it.

You assume that Clark would be confirmed by the Senate. Sorry, but as long as its Republican (and there are 5 southern seats coming open), I don't see that happening. Remember how little it took for the Repubs to derail Clinton's nomination of Bobby Ray Inman for SecDef, and he was a decorated and respected 4-star admiral who had served in administrations of both parties with distinction.

Clark will NOT disappear from his role of advising and representing Kerry on international relations, regardless of his official position. The VP is whatever the President wants him to be, and Kerry is WAY too smart to waste Clark's talents. He will be no Cheney, but you can bet he'll be running the National Security Council (as Cheney does), travelling overseas, meeting with foreign leaders, and working the issues that Secretaries of State and Defense invariably squabble over. The days when a VP is relegated to attending state funerals are long gone.

2. Fisk &thugs to accept/confirm their enemy?
Dream on!
