Can the Repugs switch candidates at their convention?

Are all their delegates committed to Bush? What if his poll numbers are in the 20s at convention time? Seems like McCain has been on the TV a lot lately.

3. Frist before McCain

They would never take McCain - he is too out of their control. But Frist might be the ticket.

Bush just announces that he has a heart murmur -- which most people won't believe because we dont' think he has a heart. And so for the good of the nation and the party, he won't run.

THink of the California recall as a model. No time to really look at whoever they pick, and so he gets a free ride with no scrutony (sorry about the spelling.)

Follow the Money!!

The money people are behind Bush. So are the Fundies. Those are the 2 groups that control the party. They will hang tough with him.

McCain is all over because 1) he is on a book tour, 2) because he was a POW, the prison mess makes him a good guest, 3) because of Iraq..he has a lot of military knowledge.

McCain is not liked by the 2 groups that control the party.

5. The Religionistas would never stand for it.

They are running the * campaign.

The money men might accept it if they were guaranteed a continued seat at the table. And it wouldn't be hard to find another Repuke puppet.

But, like Leilani said, the religionistas are driving this out of control truck.

6. Won't happen.

For all his failings and dropping poll numbers, Bush is still widely well-liked personally, has the advantage of incumbency, and a firm campaign organization with a large warchest. Should Iraq get better, should the economy get better, both of which are quite possible, Bush has a good shot at winning.
