OK. How will this play in the Midwest?
After Janet Jackson's breast contorted the minds of so many "right-thinking" Americans, will Kerry's daughter's phot at Cannes have an impact on the campaign?

Here's the article that accompanied the pic:

1. I don't know...
I mean, it was legal where she was, right? And after all the crap the Bush girls did, I don't see how they could attack Kerry on something his adult daughter chose to do... ya know?

this stuff.

2. nah
Conveniently for them, I don't see them say anything about Cheney's lesbian daughter (they should have a problem with that right?), or Bush's slut daughters ;b

6. How do you know the bush daughters are sluts?
I know they drink to excess, hang out with foreigners with bad driving records, and have been photographed with mud on their knees - but sluts?

How could a family as prim and proper the bushies raise a pair of whores?

This is part sarcasm and part curiosity. I'd like some proof.

9. i agree with you...they shouldn't.
but they seem to forgive their own more easily.

That said, it is true that Clinton was elected with potential sex scandals surrounding him when he was campaigning. So, I could be wrong (see me post below). I'm just going by what people I know have said to me.

However, he is a republican. Republicans seem to always think that the things they are against don't apply to them.

14. Thats one of my concerns
will the cons make a deal out of this, and if so, do we respond in kind, holding up photo's of Bush's drunken, muddied, lawbreaking daughters?

Take the low road or the high road?

4. I'd bet money on it.
Swing voters I know here in the midwest (many in my own family) look for the slightest reason not to have to vote for a democrat.

A lot of people I know are finally starting to doubt Bush's ability to govern this country, then something like this comes out and it only reminds them why they voted for Georgie in the first place.

Sad, but true, at least in my experience.

17. The dress didn't concern me. I say viva la human body.
Viva the human body not blown to shreds or disfigured by a land mine!

Viva life.

I was in Europe in 1982. Even twenty years ago nudity was matter-of-fact. In Denmark women sat topless in parks having picnics or reading books. Sleeveless tops with huge armholes revealed bouncing breasts of women shopping at the farmer's markets.

18. It's real. BUT
the report I read said the dress was not see through. The brightness of the flashes made it see through in the pictures.

8. Let's Not Talk "Legalities"
Let's talk about impact.

If you think I care if she bares her body, you're way off. But there will be people who will care, as stupid as that is.

Drudge and Rush will smear this, and use any tool they have to take the attention off of Bush's crimes and idiocies. Remember when Rush compared Chelsea to a dog? What will they do with this?

Should Kerry respond, or do you think that the best bet is to let the conservatives look like a bunch of dirty old men by pouting and fussing over this?

15. Well gee,
I dunno. Having spent my entire life living smack dab in the middle of the midwest I have to say I have not seen or heard one single mention of it except here on DU. WHo really gives a crap? Apparently not anyone here.

Perhaps if we want to worry so much about the mid west we could start addressing issues that midwesterners care about and maybe make a trip or two to campaign. Kerrys trip here for Brown VS Board made a big splash but since it is the one and only time he will ever come close to this state people characterized it as a photo op. Bush* too but we need to do better than Bush*.

16. Since you
can be arrested at Cannes for wearing a bathing suit top, I suppose it would not matter. But it might start a whole new round of anti-French stuff going.

20. I'm in the Midwest and
"personally", it doesn't bother me. It's her dress, her body and if she wants to show the world? Have at it! However, I do think she should have thought about what fodder she was handing the uptight, oh so righteous RW assholes. Everything she does now she must ask herself how it will affect her dad's campaign. Sad, but true. Mid America couldn't give a shit less as long as THEIR children weren't watching her on TV...unexpectedly.

The daughters (and step sons) have to think in terms of how their behavior, conduct, decorum impact their father and his candidacy.

It will be an issue where the Repubs choose to make it one, either over or under the radar. Plays into their depiction of Dems as having little concern for respectability or conventional morals.

As Dems have learned the hard way, Repukes are not hindered by charges of hypocrisy.

it won't "play" in the Midwest. ;) We've got bigger fish to fry - this is a non-issue. :hi:
