Teresa Heinz paying only 15% taxes proves the rich DO NOT pay their fair
share.

They have sooo many loop holes. The next time Hannity mentions that Teresa only paid 15%, we need to let him know that is why we need to move the 35% bracket back to Clinton's 38.6% for the rich! They already get away with murder, from their so called charities to businesses, way too many loop holes to get away from paying their fair share.

1. Teresa Heinz is also a major philanthropist
Most of this isn't rich-peoples' philanthropy, but real, honest, public-interest spending.

Perhaps she should pay more, or perhaps she is putting too much into it. But I don't think she's following the leads of, say, the Walton or the Bush families.

Otherwise, yes, the rich ought to pay their fair share -- but there have always been those who go the extra mile, like Teresa Heinz.

2. I think earlier threads pointed out a lot of her income is sheltered
in tax free muni bonds. That offsets revenue that would be raised through local taxes.

I suspect she'd be happy to pay her fair share and would accept a tax increase if it will further a more progressive budget agenda.

4. There must be a new effort at the RNC
to bring Theresa into the campaign. Suddenly, several DUers have become upset over Theresa's tax rate. I'm sure it's just a coincidence

5. Teresa WANTS to pay MORE. Vote for Kerry so the wealthiest can pay their
fair share.
