Poll question: Will the Republican Convention this year be a 1992 repeat?
I think it'll even be worse. First everyone will be disgusted at the way they talk about saving American from those filthy sodomites, then everyone will be disgusted at their blatant attempts to exploit 9/11

1. Even worse
But how many of the McCain wing will finally get tired of this nonsense? I'm not a particular fan of McCain, but the Hastert nonsense just shows what kind of fratricidal disarray is going on at the heart of their party!

Expect:

Waving the bloody towel: 911

The Governator

Inhofe on patriotism

More phony "ethnic" Republicans than you can shake a stick at

An infinite amount of Chinese sweat-shop-prison-labor-made American Flags

5. Nah, this year's dog and pony show will feature the children
...all freshly scrubbed and in pinafores and pint sized business suits, telling the faithful how compassionate Bush is, how much he adores the kiddies and what wonderful things he's done for them.

The coronation will then proceed to much flag waving and cheering by the delusional, the greedy, and the stupid.

At the same time, GOP brownshirts will be smashing store windows and hoping it gets blamed on demonstrators and provides an interesting video counterpoint to all the overdressed Pillsbury doughboys within the convention.

3. Karl Rove won't let it happen
As disgusting as these cretins are, they learn from their (political) mistakes. It will be stage-managed down to the smallest detail and It'll be very surprising if we get to see any protesters.

6. I hope they get Falwell and Robertson to speak
And they blame the pagans, and the abortionists, and the Catholics, and the ACLU for Sept 11th.

7. It may be nasty
I remember the 1992 convention here in Houston. It was a hatefest for the RWs. Rove may be planning something far worst this time around.

What is the status of the protests for the convention? Will massive protest backfire on us?

8. I was really young in 1992 but I could not believe
the bigotry and race baiting of the Republicans. I can only hope there is more of that this year to turn off people.

It's funny, I thought Pat Buchanan was the most racist hateful asshole I'd ever seen on Television before, now he is one of the few right wingers that seems to make sense on some things.

9. Let's hope so!
I was a registered Rethug in college, and voted that way until 1992. The convention speeches that year were a turning point for me. I remember hearing the hate-filled words of Pat Buchanan and getting angrier and angrier by the minute that someone in charge didn't censor his speech. How could they let this POS speak for us? And it dawned on me then that as a minority and woman, I wasn't a part of "us" as it was defined by that convention. That I was offended by the speeches was defining moment for me. The truth hit like a ton of bricks.

At the voting booth, I was really conflicted. My options, as I saw it, were to either vote for the racist, or vote for "slick willie." I punched out all the other choices in the other races and saved the office of president for last because it was the toughest decision I had to make, and standing there I honestly didn't know who I should vote for. After a lot of hand-wringing,I chose Bill Clinton. I never regretted it.

There are a lot of people this time around who can't bring themselves to vote for Bush and are struggling with voting across party lines for the first time in their lives. I hope the Rethugs show everyone their true colors. That will tip the scales. It did for me.

10. A thousand times worse...
It will be the Pat Toomey/Rick "Man-Dog Love" Santorum traveling roadshow, complete with graphic photos and all the vitriolic hatred you could hope for...or hope would go away.

11. An exercise in fear to prepare America for the October Surprise.
It will be worse than 1992, it will rival the spectacle of Triumph of the Will. Why? Because fear is the only thing the Reich Wing has going for them, the only chance they have of making a second straight electoral theft look legitimate. If they even want to attempt having an election.

12. Its going to be interesting
A recent poll done by Robert Novak, of registered Republicans indicated that one fifth of registered Republicans are not committed to voting for Bush in November, which is being taken by Novak as indicating a defeat for Bush.
