"Wrong track" numbers: Congress back to the dems?
The repugs seem to be trying to jump off the sinking chimp, but it's too late!

http://wcco.com/topstories/topstories_story_145113729.html

As concern about the situation in Iraq grows, 65 percent now say the country is on the wrong track — matching the highest number ever recorded in CBS News Polls, which began asking this question in the mid-1980's. Only 30 percent currently say things in this country are headed in the right direction. One year ago, in April 2003, 56 percent of Americans said the country was headed in the right direction.

The last time the percentage that said the country was on the wrong track was as high as it is now was back in November 1994. Then, Republicans swept into control of both houses of Congress for the first time in decades.

1. We'll see
I watched this for ten years as the generic congressional ballot polls always show a small lead for the Democrats during the campaign only to be disappointed on election day. Don't ever underestimate the incumbency advantage.

3. You're thinking of a different poll
This is a "right track/wrong track poll", not a "Which party would you vote for?"

You're right about the generic cong. poll, but it's still a very good number to have.

2. I have a question... maybe it just semantics but...
if the 65% is the highest ever then how is that the last time the numebrs were this high was in 1994? Do they mean the previous record highs were during 1994 or do they mean that we are at the same level as then?
And if we are higher now, what was it then? And how close was that point to the election?
Just curious...

4. same level, I think
they make it a challenge to figure out what they're talking about, but I think your first guess is right. This number ties the previous record, set in 1994.

5. After all the crap we're experiencing with a pube
run Congress and prez, it will be wonderful to have control again. Personally, I prefer that at least one of either the House or Senate is controlled by a party other than the prez. Checks and balances.
