Gephardt Promotes McCain Candidacy
ok, he didn't really promote mccain the nyt headline is kind of misleading, but it seemed more like he just had good things to say about mccain after someone asked him about it. it was the same with hillary's comments on mccain.

<Representative Richard A. Gephardt, the Missouri Democrat who has often been mentioned as a running mate for Senator John Kerry, is talking kindly about another choice: Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona.

Asked after a speech in California on Monday what he thought of Mr. McCain's potential for the Democratic presidential ticket, Mr. Gephardt described him as a "very attractive figure in American politics" who "would be accepted by the Democratic Party," according to CNN.

Mr. McCain is "someone a lot of Democrats could get interested in," Mr. Gephardt said at the Leon Panetta Center in Monterrey.

The kind words for Mr. McCain, who has categorically rejected the idea of joining the Kerry ticket, came a day after Ralph Nader, an independent candidate for president, advised Mr. Kerry to forget about Mr. McCain and choose either Mr. Gephardt or Senator John Edwards of North Carolina.

"McCain really should be taken at his word," Mr. Nader said on ABC's "This Week." "He's not going to do it.">

6. Biden's also from Connecticut
I think CT has a republican governor. He's a bad choice for that reason.

5. hmmm...
I almost wish that McCain would take him up on it. Too bad he's to good of a soldier to break ranks. I mean he's certainly a better choice than Lieberman or *shudder* Zell Miller.

8. Two Problems with John
Personally, I have a lot of respect for Senator McCain. I always have. But I have two problems with him as a running mate.
1) He says he doesn't want it. This alone should end all discussion.
2) The Democratic Party has a litany of extremely qualified people
to be Kerry's running mate. Let's focus on them. Not on Mc Cain
(and not on Nader.)

12. This is just great.
How stupid will we look if the monkey dumps Cheney and puts McCain on the ticket?

14. It won't happen.
I don't think McCain wants to participate in the Let's Sell This Bullshit One More Time campaign.

16. I'm not so sure.
McCain appears to have a pretty big ego and I don't think arguments about how he could "save the country" (and his party) would fall on deaf ears.

13. The fact that Gep thinks McCain would just "be accepted by the Dem
party" shows why he did so poorly in the primary.

I want a Dem on the Dem ticket. And I want someone the person who is next in line to appoint Justices to the SCOTUS to be PRO CHOICE.

18. No, it doesn't
It simply helps make our party look ridiculous and weak in the minds of the average voter. After all, if elected Dem officials don't think we can win without a repub on the ticket, then why would Joe Blow?

Most people are not going to see this as a game of strategy by Dems and will simply think we really mean it. It hurts us very badly.

19. Exactly Right!!!
That's why all the Dem heavy hitters keep talking about it! Most people are not partisans, and seeing a Republican talk highly about the Democratic candidate and visa versa, gives Kerry more appeal to independents...IMO!

21. All this Mc Cain talk.
While I don't think Mc Cain will be asked, I DO think that he might endorse Kerry at some point.
