Is the recent Zogby battleground state poll really accurate?
Edited on Wed May-26-04 07:00 PM by fujiyama
I heard that it was an online poll in that those that took it were self selected. If that's the case, I wouldn't be surprised if it leans left.

Now I'm not disputing the overall point -- that Bush is in trouble and that Kerry is leading in the battlegrounds, however some of the leads did seem a bit high.

I also am skeptical that Bush is beating Kerry by a margin greater than the margin of error in IA. It just seems off.

1. I've heard people raise some caution flags
because it was an online survey. Some states, like Florida, did seem pretty accurate, and some of the leads Kerry has, as in New Hampshire and Pennsylvania, are similar to other polls. I'm actually more excited about the California Field Poll that shows Kerry ahead by 15.

The Zogby survey to the Federal Review
Composite Poll:

In the 2nd poll--Nevada, Florida, and Missouri are red, but Iowa is blue.

3. Since I don't live any where else but Tennessee
I can't really assess the entire map.
However, I live in a very conservative area and I'm seeing more Kerry bumper stickers than I would have ever imagined. There's even a house in my neighborhood with Kerry signs all throughout the yard. Considering that East Tennessee hasn't voted for a Democrat - EVER (with the exception of Knoxville, who carried Gov. Bredesen in 2002) - this is fairly outstanding.
The Republicans I mostly speak to, however, are the fiscally conservative, deficit hawks who hate Bush's budget and economic plans, or, rather, the lack thereof.
They may slip in a vote Kerry without telling anyone or they may just sit it out.
Those Tennessee numbers, I think, are pretty accurate. As the race draws closer and Iraq is still a clusterfuck, look for Kerry to move up in the great state of Tennessee.

4. Zogby has the best national election track record by far
I'd be suprised if his results were off significantly.

6. No, it's an online poll.
Not valid, unfortunately.
