New terror threat seems fishy!!!!
Edited on Wed May-26-04 11:19 PM by Quixote1818
It seems like a huge coincidence that they decided to break the news about this new terror threat right after the study came out suggesting the Iraq war has boosted al-Qaida. Why are they are NOT going to the next threat level color if this threat is so real!!!! What is going on here? You cant tell me they didn't time the release of the new terror threat even if their is one to drown out something that basically says Bush has made us less safe. I think this is a HUGE issue. Why is the terror study already off the news??

Also the recent study suggesting the war in Iraq has boosted al-Qaida needs to be put in a commercial and talked about non stop!! Not just because it hurts Bush but because perhaps it will educate people that we are going about this wrong!!!!!Like I said before it seems like the story is already gone????? NBC talked about it yesterday but I didn't hear ABC or CBS talk about it and today all we hear about is the new terror threat which I think helps Bush because so many Americans think starting stupid wars against countries that had nothing to do with 9-11 is fighting the war on terror.

Does anyone agree or disagree? Any suggestions?

Part of the article:

The report suggested that the two military centerpieces of the U.S.-led war on terror - the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq - may have boosted al-Qaida.

Driving the terror network out of Afghanistan in late 2001 appears to have benefited the group, which dispersed to many countries, making it almost invisible and hard to combat, the story said.

And the Iraq conflict ''has arguably focused the energies and resources of al-Qaida and its followers while diluting those of the global counterterrorism coalition that appeared so formidable'' after the Afghan intervention, the survey said.

1. I'll repeat this from an earlier thread. Al-qaeda membership up over 2000%
Look at these three articles - two old, one new.

1. UN report - June 2002 - 800 al-Qaeda members
2. NY Times - June 2002 - 200-300 members at that time
3. AP - May 26, 2004 - 18,000 members

1. U.N. Report Sees 800 Qaeda Members at Large-Expert
Mon June 23, 2003

PARIS (Reuters) - The United Nations will issue a report next week showing Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda militant network has some 800 members ready to strike economic or tourist targets, a French consultant to the report said on Monday.

..."The report of the U.N. Security Council...which will appear next week, will show that a third generation of al Qaeda is forming," Jacquard told France 2 television.

It would show "that before September 11, Osama bin Laden anticipated the American attack and sent out about 800 fighters from Afghanistan, all top officers of al Qaeda.

2. Qaeda's New Links Increase Threats From Global Sites

Although sworn members of Al Qaeda were estimated to number no more than 200 to 300 men, officials say that at its peak this broader Qaeda network operated about a dozen Afghan camps that trained as many as 5,000 militants, who in turn created cells in as many as 60 countries.

Report: al-Qaida Ranks Swelling Worldwide

LONDON (AP) -- Far from being crippled by the U.S.-led war on terror, al-Qaida has more than 18,000 potential terrorists scattered around the world and the war in Iraq is swelling its ranks, a report said Tuesday.

Now The Bush administrations argument is that the way to handle terroists is to kill em all. So we started with 200-800 two years ago, killed tens of thousands of people, good and bad, and now we're up to 18,000 bad guys - up over 20 times. And the war on terror has cost Americans how much? Over 200 billion now?

This war on terror may be the most colossal failure in the history of the world. If the dems don't make milage out of that....

3. That's a perfect commercial!!! How sad!
This right here says it all:

1. UN report - June 2002 - 800 al-Qaeda members
2. NY Times - June 2002 - 200-300 members at that time
3. AP - May 26, 2004 - 18,000 members

This war on terror may be the most colossal failure in the history of the world.

In two years al-Qaeda has gone from between 300 and 800 to 18,000. OMFG!!! That has to be made into a commercial.

4. What about this?
The IISS said its estimate of 18,000 al-Qaida fighters was based on intelligence estimates that the group trained at least 20,000 fighters in its camps in Afghanistan before the United States and its allies ousted the Taliban regime. In the ensuing war on terror, some 2,000 al-Qaida fighters have been killed or captured, the survey said.

5. I should have warned you that Judith Miller wrote the Times article
But anyway, she reported FBI officials saying two years ago Al-qaeda had trained up to 5,000 militants at one time, but in June 2002, they numbered only 200-300.

Now the IISS says they had trained at least 20,000.

Are they lying or do they not have a clue. God, to think you pay 40 billion a year for this intelligence.

2. Those criminals ain't got anything else....
Their war on terror program is being used the same way, they used the unpatriotic accusations against anyone who questioned their criminal actions. We the tax payers, pay for the bush criminals to use a government program for their political games. They play it up or play it down for their political benefit. We the citizens, are being directly victimized and terrorized by the bush regime. The game is over for them.

8. The timing is uncanny!
I also remember that it seemed like every time Bush needed support for the war in Iraq the terror threat would go up. Or every time the unemployment rate would go up the terror threat would go up. I remember thinking something was fishy two years ago. If you are president you have to love having the ability to control fear at will.

12. Even the National News is now questioning the timing
Why is Tom Ridge suddenly contradicting all the statements on how bad these terror threats are? I think it's worth taking a look at. It would not be that hard to get away with something like this as it all comes down to timing. The timing is at their discression.
