Action Alert: Another Bush judicial appointment....
From Change for America:

Over at People For the America Way, we have yet another action to take, and this one is pretty obscene. They need your help in stopping the judicial nomination of William Haynes.

Haynes greatest hits include:

1) The 'enemy combatant' doctrine was developed on Mr. Haynes' watch, and it is one of the most dangerous legal developments in years.

2) Mr. Haynes' trial experience is thin. He has tried only one case to a verdict.

3)In his work, Mr. Haynes has shown a lack of concern for sensitive constitutional rights that he would be expected to safeguard from the bench.

4) He has lashed out at members of the news media and law professors who "have vehemently, and sometimes shrilly, criticized our detention of enemy combatants."

5) And he has blocked the Senate's investigation of his record. Senator Edward M. Kennedy has said that his answers to written questions have been evasive, and that "he has resisted repeated requests for clarification of his position on several important issues".

That wasn't enough for you? Than how about these lovely gems:

6) Helped make it harder for the officers with the military’s own Judge Advocate General Corps to observe interrogations. Haynes’ actions were so alarming that some JAG officers warned of “a disaster waiting to happen” and sought outside intervention.

7) Misled a U.S. Senator who had specifically asked about policies for detention and treatment of prisoners. (William J. Haynes, General Counsel, Department of Defense, Letter to U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy, June 25, 2003.)

8) Signed off on the legality of withholding Geneva Conventions protections from hundreds of persons detained at Guantanamo, defined as prisoners of war.

9) Helped develop the Defense Department's military tribunal plan, which has been condemned by human rights organizations and our nation's closest allies.

10) Supports the indefinite detention of U.S. citizens by the Executive Branch without legal counsel or meaningful judicial review.

11) Has been nominated to one of the most influential appellate courts in the country, but he has almost no in-court trial experience, and no direct appellate experience at all.

Stop this nonsense once and for all!!!

Sign the petition to stop this "moran" from getting on the Federal bench!!!

1. I thought they worked out a deal
in the senate to accept the bulk and block the worst of the appointments. WTF?
