Bush seriously targeting Independents
Edited on Thu May-27-04 09:46 PM by madaboutharry
We live in an "in-play" state that Kerry could very well take in November. My spouse, a registered Independent, received in the mail yesterday an 8 by 10 glossy of George and Laura with George wearing a big ol' Texas size belt buckle along with my spouse's name engraved on the photo. It said something like (sorry need to paraphrase as photo was spontaneously shredded) "Become a charter member for Bush/Cheney 04 bla bla bla" Of course it was asking for lots of gelt. This was an expensive mailing, we didn't get anything like this in 2000. I think this indicates that they are very worried about defections and looking to shore up the Independent vote. I don't see it happening. None of the Independents I know, even the couple who voted for Bush last time are voting for him this time around. I hope this means something.

2. When you've got $200 million to piss away by September...
You can afford to carpet bomb the the voters.

3. I got it, too, here in New Jersey
I didn't open it, though, just tossed it. It was an 8x10 white envelope that said a photograph was inside.

5. He's pissed off moderate Republicans BIG TIME!!!!!

I think targeting indpendents is probably a lost cause at this point. He really needs to go after the disillusioned Republicans.

That and disenfranchise voters combined with outright vote theft via Diebold machines.

This is his ONLY chance of being re-seated as Usurper-dent.

What really worries me, is I think the man is just dangerous enough to actually follow in Hitler's footsteps and dismantle democracy DIRECTLY.

6. much of republican campaigning is through these mailings
it's pretty expensive too. but that's how they get a lot of the money they raise.

7. some non rich right winger
would probably be impressed and send some of their hard earned dollars to the campaign even though they don't have much money for many other things they want.

8. Kerry is beating Bush
when it comes to independants in just about every state....and it's usually by 10 points or so.

The only thing that can get Bush those voters back is finding Osama, WMDS mysteriously reappearing (may not matter as much cuz Iraq will still be a freakin mess), and maybe a sudden insane unprescendented upsurge in the ecomy (very unlikely for that to happen especially in the manufacturing/industrial sectors and states which are some of the most crucial in this election).

9. I am a registered Democrat, Always Have Been
I have received 4-5 of these over the last year.

I don't throw them away, or allow my child to color them in (although she would like to). I tell her we have to respect the office of the president, even though we don't respect Bush (I stil get upset about the way Clinton was treated).

I magnet them low on the fridge, directly above the trash can. And I tell people the placement is intentional.

10. Why do Pubs think independents would want a big glossy of * and Pickles?
I can see the RW fundie base swooning over such party favors, but it is doubtful that even independents inclined to vote for * would want his smirky mug sitting on the piano.

11. Not Independents..swing voters
There are no Independents in the middle. They are swing voters. Right of center people who sometimes like the pure evil of repubs and sometimes like the smiley evil of Democrats.

There is no room for Independents between the two parties, they have merged and it surely isn't in the 'middle' since the dems can hardly be considered leftist these days.

Sorry to nitpick... :)

But the question is do we want the Democratic Party to move fruther right to appeal to these right of center independents or do we want to attract the disenfranchised on the left?

I say lets move over the middle line some more, who needs two parties anyway.

:)

12. he's gonna need it, because no way in hell the Dems will switch this year
He better start hitting up the Independents, because the math is not in his favor this year.

Think about it: there's no way any Gore or Nader voters from 2000 will EVER vote for him. There's also a lot of Repubs who don't like him either. His only hope is that 2.5% of the electorate known as the "swing vote"-- and Shrub is looking worse to them by the second.
