Any info on VP possibilites besides Clark & Edwards?
Does anyone know anything about the other possible V.P. running mates, besides Clark and Edwards? Like Sen. Bayh? I've seen him on TV speaking about the issues, and he comes across well, but I don't know much about him. He's also on one of the committees involved in hearings currently. Any info on any of the others?

2. Bayh..
I don't know too much about Bayh..he's the Junior senator from Indiana..he was elected in 1998 so he's still serving his first term. He won election by a pretty wide margin..64% to 35%, but alot of people don't think that he can put Indiana in to play. I think that it's possible, considering the margin w/ which he won election.

And alot of people here on DU have voiced that he's a bit too conservative for their tastes, but I honestly don't know much about where he stands on the spectrum.

4. Lieberman to the rescue
Well, I mentioned Zell Miller last week, so nowhere to go but up.

Lieberman is well rested, after dropping out so early, and consider how well Antonio Tarver did in his rematch with Roy Jones.

Lieberman/Cheney II, anyone?

5. Sen. John Breaux (D-LA)
Edited on Fri May-28-04 09:35 AM by Padraig18
Extremely popular in LA, Sen. Breaux is retiring this year, so his selection would not create a 'D' loss in the Senate. Sen. Breaux is conservative but, unlike Zell Miller, he is a loyal and dependable 'D' vote on all party-line votes. He campaigned vigorously statewide for both Sen. Mary Landieux and Gov. Bianco.

Breaux would help Kerry in LA, and could (likely would) do much to ease fears about Kerry's liberalism in battleground states in the Deep South, Mid South and Midwest. Breaux would also help our down-ticket House and Senate candidates.

He is a 'dark horse' candidate for VP, and his selection would only surprise me a little.

6. Breaux co-sponsored the Medicare Reform Bill that just
passed, and voted for it and supported it, despite the Dem. Party's wishes. Why did he do that? Because he's leaving the Congress and could take the hit from his party.

I'm originally from La. Breaux is not very popular among Dems., but he's pretty popular in La., since it is now a Republican state, primarily.

He's okay, but I would not be pleased to see him on the ticket. But I don't know how Independents would feel, and I've read that that's what counts this time around. I don't think he has foreign relations experience, either.

8. Gephardt
is still on the list and if Kerry wants someone who has years of experience and years of loyalty to the party--he may pick Gep. Sorry to say it.

10. How about someone with some moxie.
Someone who fires people up.Someone who makes us think Kerry is a real Democrat..Someone like Henry Waxman or David Bonior.Someone with backbone...Vilsack fits that bill, from what I have seen..
Sen. Durbin has fit the bill of a real Democrat.

18. Vilsack's Backbone
He refused to endorse a candidate in the Iowa Caucuses. (Though his wife endorsed Kerry, as I recall)

13. My top choice is still John Lewis of Georgia.
Amazing biography.
Great debater.
Can carry at least one state and solidify others.
Nearly immune to BFEE attack.

If Kerry picks Lewis, the Bushies will be running for cover.

14. African American
I would like to see him pick an African American too, but I think it is hard for them to do that considering they will probably get 9 out of 10 blacks already voting for them. I wonder if it would help bring out more people to vote though?

All things considered I wish Kerry would pick an Afican American for VP or a woman or both :-).

15. well
the problem isn't that african-americans aren't voting for democrats. the problem is that they're not voting at all.

Kerry picks Lewis, and they'll come out in droves.

19. How about
Dick Durbin...

Very Liberal Democrat, is also Senator From a state that is very important for Kerry to win in the midwest, which has ben leaning towards Kerry for months and only in recent polls has shown heavily blue in the race between Kerry and Bush.

21. Here is a clue on where the VP 'search' is going:
Just got this piece of data:

Read a report on appearances for Kerry (from a state Kerry coordinator, don't know the name): Clark 48 times, Dean, 40 times, Edwards 18.

Don't think anyone else is even being seriously considered, actually.
