My mom hugged John McCain today
He came to an event in the Lehigh Valley at the Hospital and she identified herself as a fellow Vietnam Veteran (she was a 1st Lt in the Army nursing corp) and he walked over and hugged her. She said it was a vietnam veteran thing but I urged her to take a long bath.

2. I know my medical corpsman neighbor
from the 101st would have also used disinfectant. He's been a member of Viet Nam Vets Against War since the '60s.

3. Oh god. I shudder at the thought.
It's nice that she was able to connect with him over Vietnam though ...does she also support him politically?

Even the Republicans I know in "real life" know that McCain is a weak candidate, and are either not voting or voting for a Democrat this year.

4. When he came out of Hanoi, those nurses put him back together.
I do think it's a VV thing. No one is "all evil." McCain shouldn't be president, but he performed above expectations as a POW.

5. Part of me can understand
the "Vietnam thing", there is respect there for those who had survived...but there is still a part of me that has the "ew" response. Salute to your Mom.

14. has anyone ever commented on how disheveled McCain is all the time?
shirt untucked, pants slipping down - he really DOES remind of a not-so-healthy to be around the youngsters old coot at a family reunion

8. Give your mom a "Silkwood Scrub"!!
Like Meryl Streep as Karen Silkwood (in the film) was disinfected when she was thought to be contaminated at the nuke plant.

12. I can dig it. He did serve our country and Vietnam Veterans are a tight group.
He's still a thug, but good for your Mom sharing a moment with him.

When she said what unit and where she served. I guess I won't ever understand that connection. She's a member of Veterans for Obama in my town. Its wierd whenever a Vietnam Vet first meet they first say Welcome Home to each other.

18. Not surprising. McCain has the highest favorables right now and
many Democrats say they like him, even though they may despise Shrub/Chainey. Big problem there. My Dad, who hasn't voted Repuke for Prez in decades is seriously thinking about going with McCain. He's loathed Shrub from the get-go. This means trouble on the horizon.
