I agonized over whether I should post this
all night. I decided to because I suppose that after all these years here, to not post it would be inappropriate, given the source.

Yesterday, an individual with whom I am well-acquainted here in Philadelphia, who is politically connected at the Democratic City level, and who is an Obama supporter told me an intersting story. I am presenting this as a rumor only and not as 'fact', since I have no idea what is and is not higher-order-truth these days.

The story is this: "someone" has the 'goods' on the Reverend, something very bad according to this individual, and in return for not having this information disseminated AND for compensation of some sort, is doing whatever he's doing. This story is quietly reverberating throughout the political establishment here in Philly.

If you want to shred me for posting 'trash' like this, then you are missing the point of the post. This is what is being said among the members of this particular political crowd and that's what I am stating. Period.

you mean making the interview rounds? The Clinton camp has dirt on him, so he has to keep this up?

3. Thanks for the heads up.
For the time being, I'm going to assume it's a rumor simply because the same one has been making the rounds here on DU too.

14. I know that is your fervent wish. You are an evil piece of work.
As much as I have come to dislike hillary, I would never wish for anyone to have the "Goods" on her. I just wish she'd accept defeat gracefully when/if the time comes, rather then try to destroy her running mate and the entire Democratic party. All so she can say, "See, I told you he was unelectable."

Her followers are disgusting as she is.

was making the rounds here on DU in the last days before the Ohio primary?

17. The sad thing is that...
...certain people at DU have been tripping over each other to laud and defend Jeremiah Wright at every turn and he returns the favor by suggesting that their candidate is a phoney. And, as if throwing Obama under the bus wasn't enough for the Pastor of Disaster, he topped himself by mocking John F. Kennedy... a champion of civil rights, a beloved president, and the dead brother of one of Obama's most important endorsers. Just amazing.

Reverend Wright quite often. Until then, I agreed with a lot of what he said. I also think his bona fides make him someone who's very hard to ignore, simply because of his advanced degrees, his life work, and his military service.

But the same stuff that made Barack Obama finally say enough is enough has made me cringe, too. I think it was the mocking of JFK's accent that did it for me. For one thing, it was a terrible impersonation. For another, JFK is someone I admire greatly.

And I understand the point Rev. Wright was trying to make. BUT I expect someone of his caliber to be able to make that point in a positive way.

My tin foil hat didn't prevent me from wondering why on earth Wright would mock President Kennedy, when so many members of the Kennedy family have endorsed Obama. Maybe I should get a new tin foil hat or something, but that was the moment I began to entertain the possibility that Rev. Wright is out for revenge.

Edit to add that I didn't watch all of Wright's speeches or the Q&A. I understand he said a lot of other crazy stuff, too.

39. I'm a cranky Kucinich voter
I am not crazy for our two candidates, but I have also defended Wright, as he has stood with the GLBT community many times. And I guess I'm sort of going to again. Kennedy's accent and Kennedy himself are openly mocked each time the Simpson's Mayor Quimby opens his Bostonian, womanizing mouth. So that has been going on for 20 years.
My Dad was a Kennedy devotee. Loved JFK and Bobby. He also made fun of their way of speaking. 'Cuber' for 'Cuba' was specially funny to him. Sorry. The Kennedy's came from nothing and wound up talking like Lord Snotbocks. They were poor Irish, like my Dad, and he found the accents to be funny. Again, sorry.
About the Kennedy endorsent, the real issue for Ted to address is his own run against a sitting Democratic President, all the way to convention, with an insurmountable gap in votes. He went and sought out pledged delegates to switch over to him. Jimmy Carter kicked him to the curb. It is funny to me, as Kennedy fought for so long after such a huge rejection by the voters, and the Obama backers love Teddy, but also want Hillary to drop out over a gap far smaller than what Ted faced against a sitting Democratic President. Think about that one, Ted wise.

15. Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
I think a few decades as a minister, especially of the fire and brimstone variety, makes it unlikely that he could be blackmailed into doing something he found to be morally reprehensible.

I think the more likely case is he is acting on a moral imperative and Obama is simply a casualty.
Assuming he wholeheartedly believes his rhetoric (which I have no reason to doubt) it is very possible that he sees his sudden access to millions of people as a gift from god ... and that he has to take the opportunity to spread "the truth".
Maybe in his eyes Obama is just a regrettable, but acceptable, casualty in the pursuit of that truth.
Or maybe he's so wrapped up in his BS that he doesn't even notice Obama's plight.

26. These "rumors" are very effective
Someone starts the buzz and then even if nothing comes from the rumor, "it" leaves a dark mark on the person and those associated with "it". Causing those less knowledgeable, most of the voting public, with a bad feeling about a canidate that they just can't quite put their finger on.
