Hillary : "You know what. Rich people, God Bless Us. We deserve all the opportunities"
http://www.youtube.com/v/pypZVJQt1Tg

This is un-freakin-believable. Hillary thinks that Rich people, God Bless them, deserve all the opportunities.

And she has the testicular fortitude to call Barack Obama an Elitist?

She doesn't even know how to work a gas pump or a coffee machine.

95. Middle class my butt.
She was talking about people making less than $250,000 a year in take-home pay, and people in everything but the highest tax bracket.

She was talking about the middle class, the upper class, the rich, and all but the super-rich. That's how she defines "middle class", to justify her tax breaks for the rich.

Edited on Thu May-01-08 12:26 PM by americanstranger
Looks like she's referring specifically to rich people, doesn't it?

"You know what, Rich People, God Bless Us. We deserve all the opportunities, to make sure our country and our blessings continue for the next generation."

Nothing about the American people in there. that whole statement - even in context - appears to refer specifically to rich people.

Not 'Americans - God bless Us.' Not 'Voters - God Bless Us.'

Sounds like she's learned well from Doug Coe.

13. It doesn't even make sense
One of the more heated policy discussions came over taxes. O'Reilly demanded to know how much Clinton was going to "take out of my wallet," and when she listed a series of proposals to aid middle class families, O'Reilly interjected. "I'm not middle class, I'm a rich guy." Clinton responded (in an awkward moment), "Rich people, God bless us. We deserve all the opportunities to make sure our country and our blessings continue until the next generation."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/30/hillary-clinton-takes-on_n_99524.html

At first I thought it must be out of context, instead it is just more bizarre shit from Hillary.

And I don't like it when Obama supporters do it, any better.

I will say that "Rich people, God bless us." doesn't sound good in any context, though. To suggest that God should provide blessings to the wealthy that the poor don't deserve is extremely elitist. There's no way to shake that out and make it sound better.

...but even IN context, the quote isn't much better IMHO.

Anyway ... welcome to our world.

61. Completely out of context - see the whole clip here:
Your one sentence is misleading, perhaps deliberately to make Sen. Clinton look bad.

The entire segment should be viewed:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9X_nnEJmHM

It is very clear that she was arguing why rich people should pay more in income tax to enable cuts for those earning less and she was acknowledging O'Reilly's point that she and he were both relatively well off.

...doesn't this clash horribly with her "I'm a regular truck riding, coffee drinking kinda gal" photo-op from yesterday?

Even the 'common folks' can see the hypocrisy there.

If so, you would know that the answer to your question is "no." Unless you think that truck riders would prefer that the rich should pay LESS in tax so that truck riders can pay more.

73. Yes I did watch the entire clip.

You don't think that agreeing w/ Bill'O that she is wealthy is at odds with the photo-op that they arranged yesterday at the gas station, where the entire point was to show that she's just 'regular folks'? (Even though she was incapable of pumping either gas or coffee herself?)

That was my point that you tried to spin off into the boonies. :eyes:

68. Debunking bullshit is a full time job. Here's the transcript.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,353759,00.html

CLINTON: Well, because here's why. I learned a lesson from Ronald Reagan. In 1980, when he was elected, our Social Security system was in a mess. The Democrats weren't agreeing and a lot of the Republicans were nervous. So Speaker Tip O'Neill, another great American politician, the two of them, the two Irishmen, got together and said, let's have a commission, because the only way we're going to fix this is if everybody said, hey, we've got to make some changes. I am not going to raise the payroll tax on people who are already paying more than their share.

O'REILLY: But I could pay it on every nickel I make.

CLINTON: No. I am not in favor...

O'REILLY: So that would be another 8 going on to 6.5. That's 14.

CLINTON: I am not in favor of lifting the cap. That's Senator Obama.

O'REILLY: Oh, you're not?

CLINTON: I am not in favor of lifting the cap.

O'REILLY: OK. So you're going to keep it $109,000?

CLINTON: We're going to see what happens here.

O'REILLY: All right.

CLINTON: We're going to — but...

O'REILLY: So you're kind of waffling here, right?

CLINTON: No, I'm not waffling. I'm saying I'm not going to impose additional burdens on middle-class families. And there are a lot of people...

O'REILLY: But I'm not a middle-class family. I'm a rich guy.

CLINTON: Well, and you know what? Rich people, God bless us. We deserve all the opportunities...

O'REILLY: All right.

CLINTON: ...to make sure our country and our blessings continue to the next generation.

O'REILLY: I'm going to assume — because I'm a saver and I'm prudent — I'm assuming that I'm going to get a 14 percent hit.

CLINTON: Don't assume that. You can't assume that from me.

O'REILLY: All right. Now...

CLINTON: I've not said anything like that.

O'REILLY: OK. You're going to raise taxes on the wealthy, and that's income redistribution. You know what that is. And income redistribution is why some conservatives don't like you, all right? It's because you take from the wealthy and you give to the less affluent. That's socialism. That has a socialist component.

CLINTON: No it isn't.

O'REILLY: Sure it is.

CLINTON: Teddy Roosevelt — was Teddy Roosevelt a socialist?

O'REILLY: Somewhat.

CLINTON: Oh, I think that Teddy Roosevelt was a great American...

O'REILLY: So do I.

CLINTON: ...who understood that our country works better when we're all in it together. Now...

O'REILLY: But you're taking and giving. Robin Hood, taking and giving.

CLINTON: ...90 percent of the benefits of income in the last decade have gone to people like us. Income distribution was much broadly dispersed. You were growing up on Long Island. I was growing up outside of Chicago. You know, my dad got up every day. He was a small business man. He worked his head off, but he didn't feel like the deck was stacked against him.

71. Thanks - actually, the part just before your quote makes it the clearest, I think:
"O'REILLY: You know, your husband and I make a lot of money. Did you know that?

CLINTON: I've heard that.

O'REILLY: Yes, we make a lot of money. And you, if you're president, are going to take more of my money and your husband's money away. Away. OK, now I'm paying 33 percent fed tax now. You're going to raise that to what?

CLINTON: I'm going up to what we had in the 1990s...

O'REILLY: 39.5, all right.

CLINTON: ...36, 39. People...

O'REILLY: All right. So I'm getting a 6.5 percent bump, and so is Bill Clinton.

CLINTON: Well, it's only for the people making more than $250,000.

O'REILLY: No, that's me. That's me. You're talking to him.

CLINTON: I know.

O'REILLY: OK. All right. All right.

CLINTON: And I am very happy...

O'REILLY: So 6.5 percent…

CLINTON: ...that you're going to pay more...

O'REILLY: I know you are.

CLINTON: ...so that we can cut middle-class taxes...

O'REILLY: Fine.

CLINTON: ....on people who get up every day...

O'REILLY: I'm a generous guy.

CLINTON: ...and do hard work to keep our country going."

She's describing her plan to raise income (not FICA) taxes on people earning more than $250K per year.

You think if this was Obama instead of Clinton it wouldn't be all over DU right now? After her free riding on so many things like that to get a few votes away from Obama, I don't really have any sympathy. She should have picked her words a bit more carefully. Yep, she was quoted out of context, but it's an occupational hazard. Sorry Hillary, no tears for you.

and puts you in the intellectual sewer bashing Hillary the night she vowed to drastically increase taxes on rich people (those making $200,000 or more).

anyone believing what this thread says are either stupid, or playing dumb, cherrypicked the line where she told O'reilly "god bless rich people", pretending not to know this phrase came in the middle of a heated argument where O'reilly protested her pledge to raise taxes on him and all rich people, and called her a Socialist.
