hate to say it but I suspect 33.5% will vote for McCain and that is a damn shame. We had this election won against any republican until obama decided to UNITE US.......

How dare Obama interfere with Hillary's coronation
Sorry, but that's basically what you're saying. Obama shouldn't have run and should have just let Hillary be coronated as the nominee to increase our chances.

5. OK, I am a Hillary supporter and I don't like this thread
I read the thread about African-American voters staying home if Obama doesn't get the nomination several times, and really felt sad about it, so I decided not to respond. I don't think it's helpful or constructive to post a thread like this in return. I also felt that the issues raised were too complex to just respond to off the cuff. But to post something like this in response isn't okay, IMO.

68. There is a rational core here on DU...
And no matter who I favored, being in that core would be more important.

There are zealots on all sides right now, and DU is going to need us very badly no matter who the nominee turns out to be.

If for some reason, Clinton is the nominee, I'll have my work cut out for me. I can only hope that whatever credibility I have as an Obama supporter will help get people to do the right thing in November no matter what. I hope that the rational Clinton supporters will do the same.

I am a religious, white democrat from a rural area that owns several guns. Obama's comments DID offend me. I don't own firearms or practice my religion because of my economic status. I do it because I believe in God and enjoy hunting and I felt that Obama was insinuating that something must be wrong with you if those are your values.

I'm an Edwards supporter and had been leaning toward Obama until that comment, now I'm back on the fence.

The second part... I was scared to death when Lieberman was running as Veep. Because I knew that like the OP he would speak out of his faceanus and make us all look bad.

You've been spouting this race crap since fall of last year. Anyone stupid enough to pick HRC over race will also be stupid enough to pick McCain over HRC.

ANnnnnd it's a different situation becuase Obama has won fair and square.

what happens on many forums when one group supplants their beliefs over the others, and in so doing the moderators allow them to do this even when it goes against the so called rules of the forum.

What I see about the obama people is their desire to be seen as "being right" in their support of obama for the simple reason he is "black". They want to be on the side of supporting the "black" candidate and in doing so seen as somehow superior because they support this candidate. Then go so far as to condemn those of us for supporting the "white" or "woman" candidate and then to label us as either "bigots" or "racists". It is easy to label someone a "bigot" or a "racist" when in fact the candidate they support on numerous occasions has played the race card, as well as that candidates surrogates and then blame it on the other candidate and spouse.

I don't want Senator Clinton to win, she plays dirty, kicks below the belt and lies to me at every opportunity. As far as I'm concerned the ONLY thing I think she'll do is help the SCOTUS.

Wishing that she was a savior won't make it so; imo she is a shell of a person pretending she gives a flying fig about anyone but herself. Also, why would the republicans and the media be supporting her this way if she weren't one of them?

I wish there were a way to let everyone see the puppeteers behind the puppets. And yes I know, Senator Clinton supporters don't agree.

Boy, if I didn't know better, I'd think by your constant spiel, Obama had no right to run for POTUS. What are YOUR criteria for someone declaring his candidacy? Did you have the same animosity towards Edwards, Dodd, Richardson, et.al. when they joined the race? Is your problem with Obama that he is the front runner? If one of the others were left standing against hillary, would you feel the same about him?

I think I know where you are coming from - same as hillary says, Obama can not win because.... I know this is an important election - this country is SO screwed up after 8 years of bush - but I think suggestions like yours are reprehensible and show how truly fucked up things are. He had EVERY RIGHT to run, EVERY RIGHT!

If the white working class voters stay home cause hillary is not on the ballot, oh well...

Look- if Hillary can convince these folks that ANY DEM is racist, elitist or unpatriotic- then McCain with the full force of the media will have no problem feeding them lies & smears.

The easily lied to "working class" that has been built up to be such a sure thing should be a concern for either candidate.

For many of them, enjoy thier company and the working class pose & myths that go along with it while you can.

I have no idea why we think that folks who would stay home or vote McCain are part of "the DEM base"- they are conservative swing-voters- and they dont call 'em swing voters for nothing...

I've got news for you- some-not all- but some of the noble, salt-of-the earth,"working class" types dont like black folks that much.

Hillary focused on Wright & Farrakkan with those folks in mind- she didnt make the "scary black man" association a central theme of her campaign just for her health.

I have yet to see you refute that or challenge my notion that some of the "swing voters" who voted for Hillary did bace their votes on race. they admitted it in exit polls.

You have yet to refute the fact that Hillary tried to associate Obama with Farrakkan in an effort to play race-identity politics.

Get it straight- pointing out racist tactics & the racist beliefs of certain voters is not racist rhetoric nor is it racist in itself.

Under this type of hillary/Rush Limbaugh logic, ANY discussion of race or racsim could be labeled as "racist rhetoric" or "playing the race card." Republicans have used your argument to shut down discussions or debates on race issues for years. But you knew that.

I never said you cant disagree with Obama and not be a racists- I pointed out the fact that some Hillary voting racists admit in exit polls that they dont like him b/c he is black, and that racists tacitcs have been used against him.

62. Racist viewpoint
Hillary's talking points that the white working class voter is more important than any black voter. I think the 3/5s clause was repealed a while back.

67. So now it begins ...
Edited on Fri May-02-08 01:51 AM by NanceGreggs
Those who are beginning to realize that the nominee WILL BE OBAMA are starting to warn us of the devastation that nomination will undoubtedly lead to for the party.

Keep predicting a defeat at Obama's hands in November, BenDavid - just like a true Democrat would. :sarcasm:

BenDavid quote: "If the left wing of the DNC tries anything designed to alter our perception that Obama's condescending comments are not a huge problem that goes directly to his electability, we are ready to bolt the democratic party and support McCain."

72. And that will be their choice.
Fine by me if they can live with a McCain Presidency.

They will get what they deserve.

Of course, they will then blame the McCain turmoil on some other group for forcing them to vote against their interests.:eyes:

77. No. Obama is actually the better candidate to appeal to white working class voters.
Right now, the Clinton campaign is stirring up lies about Obama (I'm sorry to have to say this, but the last two days' news proves it) and many white, working class voters are supporting her in the primaries against "the scary black man." However, once the bigotry is stirred up, it extends to women. These same voters, allowed to wallow in their fear and bigotry, will inevitably vote for the white man in the GE.

If Hillary stops this now, and the Democratic Party gets behind Obama, he will resume his appeal to a wide range of voters, and we have a good chance for victory in the GE.

80. Not THIS working-class Democrat
Squabbles are squabbles; this fall is time for party unity, to re-capture the promise of America.

I'd prefer Hillary, and I am unhappy with the goons in Obama's company, but at least they're Democrats.

And that's all I demand.

No bullshit about the DLC, the PDC, the ABCDE or LS/MFT*.

Just the DNC and the USA.

Ben, I know that the Obama goons bug you, too, but don't let it get to you. They are a small fraction of the party. In solidarity, their influence will dwindle; in victory, their passions will be tempered. We need to turn this nation around, no matter who is at the proverbial wheel.
