NC takes center stage Fri. night: Jefferson-Jackson Dinner

Doesn't CSPAN usually show this event live? Should be interesting and have a lot of hoopla surrounding it.

Obama, Clinton to speak at Jefferson-Jackson Dinner

Raleigh, N.C. — North Carolina takes center stage on Friday night with Democratic presidential candidates Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama speaking at the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner.

The event was supposed to be a dinner for 500, now the crowd has grown to 900 with 4,000 expected to be in the audience to watch the two speak days before the state’s primary on Tuesday.

“It is huge. We’ve never had anything like this. It is clearly unprecedented,” said Jerry Meek, state Democratic Party Chair.

Tickets for the event sold out hours after Obama and Clinton announced they would attend. The candidates will be speaking to an audience filled with key Democrats in the state, including some superdelegates.

“These are the people who are with the party through thick and thin. They are the ones who will get out and work for you. They are the ones who will write checks for you too,” said political commentator Barlow Herget.

The timing of the event has also brought increased interest. A WRAL news poll released Wednesday showed that Obama's double-digit lead over Clinton among Tar Heel Democrats had dropped to just 7 points.

2. Clinton probably. She usually speaks first.
Even when she wins on primary nights and would normally have the right to go second she speaks first. I think that's by choice, and I don't blame her. If you were giving a speech on tv, would you want to follow Barack Obama?

6. I think McCain made that mistake the night of Wisconsin
I vaguely remember someone in the media talking about how dull he sounded speaking after Barack.

3. Obama should concentrate on McCain and unity and leave the dirt, as usual, to Hill.

5. Yep. I'm gonna be busy tomorow.
I hope Hill doesn't go negative at this venue. I'll be sitting there uncomfortably squirming if she does. I just hope it's all smooth because I'm starting to burn out.

10. Update:
It's 80 degrees at 6:30 pm, right now, and Dorton Arena (the site of tonight's event) is not air-conditioned.

It's going to be hot in there!
