6. One of the Texas uncommitteds just went to Obama
Yes! John Patrick is no longer uncommitted - he's Obama, baby

Burnt Orange Report blog 5/1/08
Today, a Texas superdelegate backed Barack Obama, citing his record of standing up for working families and opposing trade deals that fail to protect American workers. The endorsement by Texas DNC Member John Patrick, who is also a 31 year member of the United Steelworkers (USW) as well as a Vice President of the Texas AFL/CIO, brings the total number of superdelegates to endorse Barack Obama to 249. Senator Obama is 283 delegates away from securing the Democratic nomination.

John Patrick said, "Senator Barack Obama has spent a lifetime standing up for American workers, and he will be a crucial voice for us in the White House. Senator Obama chose a career as an organizer on the streets of Chicago, fighting for working families who lost their jobs, specifically those families in neighborhoods devastated by steel plant closings. He has consistently opposed unfair trade deals that fail to offer protection to American workers - like NAFTA. Senator Obama has a real plan to put money back in the pockets of working families by restoring the manufacturing base in America."

John Patrick is labor - Vice President of the Texas AFL-CIO.

:woohoo: Obamanos!

7. He's also in a state that wouldn't want Hillary on the ballot
TX, like IN, has its lunatic "vote against the clintons at all costs" fringe, so sounds like Patrick was trying to help out his state candidates in a gen. election.

13. Well I object to your "lunatic fringe" characterization of TX
But if you're saying that Texas repukes hate the Clintons, that's true. But realistically this is the south so the TX general election is going to have issues either way. I'm encouraged by the Texas primary turnout and I would love to see this state turn blue. We're working like hell down here to make it happen too.

16. It's not a state thing
it's a constituency thing that every state has... including my own. my rep. is in a district that is contested - so not wanting to give certain opponents a reason to vote, if they are already lukewarm about McCain, makes sense as a political move.

good luck with TX. I love Austin. I have family there and in Houston - and it is HOT there!!!

8. That was easy...
I sent one to my representative who has not pledged his support yet a while back, but I didn't know about the others that were uncommitted. Thanks. Maybe an email a day is in order.

12. I sent two to the same person...one the form that went to all and one with a piece of my mind
and it felt good when I got done. I really got personal with her (Corinne Brown). What a waste.

Also, don't forget to mention you will not support them in THEIR upcoming elections. And, I threw in that I would vote for John McCain or Hillary if they did not switch for Obama (even though I don't really mean it)....

14. Yes -- I always say things like
"you will lose my vote if..." or "I won't contribute if..."

I never waste time explaining WHY they should do whatever, all they care about is if they have your vote.

I know Liddy Dole is going "am I losing gateley's vote AGAIN?" :7

15. I will never forget the time that I went to hear...
John Mica (R) speak. I had my picture taken with him and pretended that I would vote for him, then when he went sour I used it against him and spread it all over and reminded him that I would not vote for him and would tell all my neighbors and friends about him. He actually wrote me an email and tried to get my support back. He knew I meant business since I had the photo op. It was funny....

17. I don't usually spend a lot of time in gd-p
but now that the primary is in my state, I've been here more. There is actually useful information and interesting people from both camps... you just have to figure out who the screamers are so you can lower their volume.

I found this via a link to a delegate blog post that's here's in gd-p.

The internet is an amazing democratizing instrument. I think it's fitting that the U.S. was central to its development. Makes me proud.

18. Thanks for the link! Oregon is 2-2-8
Two for Hillary, two for Obama, and two uncommitted. I sent each of them emails. I don't know how strong our governor's ties are to Clinton, but he's a reasonable man (or so I've heard). Maybe he'll see the light if enough of us email.

22. My one remaining undeclared SD is Howard Dean
Bernie's not an SD. Somehow I don't think I'll let Howard know I wish he'd go for Obama. He's got enough on his plate right now, and he has to remain impartial anyway.

deserves a hug

I know Rove has dropped a Friday stink bomb into the democratic campaign, but there are more effective ways to work for this election than to fall for such drek.

If you contact your superdelegates, please recognize them as humans who deserves as much respect as you do.
