To those thinking of staying home on election day
Please don't. If you just can't stomach voting for whoever is the Democratic nominee, go to your polling place, write in your preferred candidate's name if you must and then vote straight democratic ticket down the line. We need a veto-proof majority in Congress more than anything, and Democratic victories everywhere. Don't punish every other Democrat because you are disappointed in the Presidential nomination.

Thank you!

:patriot:

1. I plan on it...
I would never not go to vote. But if our race is between 2 people in particular I will for the first time in 20 years of elections not vote for anyone for President. I will still go to vote and still vote a straight democratic downticket.

2. What makes you think the Dems, even if they have huge majorities, will do anything?
I have not seen any indication that enough of "our" congressional crooks will even try to do anything positive.

They did nothing after the 2006 election and will do nothing after 2008.

4. Please notice the phrase "veto proof majority" that the OP used.
The Democratic majority in the House and Senate right now is so slim that they still must depend on a number of Republicans voting with them to get legislation passed or to overturn a veto.

6. Yes - must keep that fucking powder dry. Maybe because they make money
selling it to those who will actually use it.

They have done worse than nothing - they have aided and abetted the pukes in continuing THEIR agenda. But we are still supposed to blindly give them our votes and money? At this point, they have to earn it. And they have done nothing to do so.

5. Sen. Johnson had a stroke and they don't have the needed 60 to make a majority.
That's the facts although I think they could have NOT sent some bills to the floor.

We still are better off with a Dem in the WH and a majority in the House and Senate.

The alternative would make for another dismal four years of increased poverty

and despair for all Americans and Iraqi's.

7. I'm curious as to why you are a member here
If you have no faith in anything positive from Democrats. It sounds as if nothing would please you or give you hope. There's a lot that a 60+ majority in the Senate can do that our current majority cannot. For example block Supreme Court nominees or other appointments.

11. People have their reasons.
His reason is to 1) bash Obama, and 2) bash Democrats in general.

Some people are SO obvious.

3. thank you
I still don't understand how not voting "because they _____ is too _____" and allowing the Republicans to win is a good strategy.

To me, it's like saying "I'm afraid of getting mugged, so I'm just going to hit myself in the head with this crowbar." Just my opinion though: everyone is free to vote or not however they choose, but please remember we all have to deal with the consequences of your actions.

If nothing else, Bush has taught us that the "greater of two evils" can in fact be quite worse than the lesser.

9. NO WAY!
I may write in if my candidate is not on the ticket, But the democrats do not deserve a straight-dem vote. Sorry but some haven't done anything in my area to show me they deserve the job... I will vote for whoever is out there making things happen, not who just happens to be a Dem.

13. Assuming the machines are trustworthy... (and that's a very iffy assumption)
The software does have a write-in option, that lets you enter your preferred candidate's name on a virtual keyboard on the touch screen.

15. I had a touch screen recently
And you did have the option but I didn't choose it so I couldn't tell you how it works. It's always an option.

But of course touchscreens suck for other reasons.

12. I never said I'd stay home.
I just said I'd vote for Obama whether he's on the ballot or not. Even if that means writing him in.

Clinton will never get my vote, and the Democratic Party has truly lost its way if it chooses a sociopath like her as the nominee.

16. Voting for any Democratic candidate is the lesser of two evils..
I will vote for either, whichever wins it, has my vote... Do I support them? Hell no, but I do support the ideals of the Democratic Party...
