Kantor denies he ever uttered the words in video

A former aide to President Bill Clinton, and current informal adviser to Sen. Hillary Clinton, expressed outrage and shock on Friday after a videotape from 1992 surfaced allegedly showing him describing Indianans as "white n---rs."

Mickey Kantor, who served as campaign chairman during Clinton's 1992 run for the White House and says he has offered help and advice to Sen. Clinton, insisted that the tape was a fraud and that he was exploring legal steps against the individual who posted it online.

"I've never used that word in my entire life, ever, under any circumstance, ever," an angry Kantor told The Huffington Post, citing his and his parent's work fighting for civil rights...

I've been a bit reluctant to post the day's much-emailed, 15-year old clip from 'The War Room' for a couple of reasons -- vintage, and differences from the original.

So this is kind of interesting: Mickey Kantor claims that the clip, in which subtitles have him claiming that the people of Indiana are ... excrement ... and then using a racial slur has been doctored.

He claims to have been deriding the polls, not the people, of Indiana -- I can't actually make out the word. And he denies using the n-word.

Take a look at the recently posted video; and compare with the video and audio around 4:45 from this fuller clip from the video. The offensive bit, which doesn't quite seem to match his lips, is also totally inaudible in the original. It seems to have been added in the new version.

Closed my eyes and put my ears to the speaker. It's audible. That's exactly what he said.

I do agree, however, that the audio is enhanced on the youtube clip, but it's not fabricated. The clip that Ben Smith posted proves that is indeed what he said.

Look at the original un doctored clip, it's impossible to tell what he said except some one was "shit" (which he immediately apologized for) and beyond that nothing. To go from this to calling people white n*** is total crap and Obama should be ashamed.

Were he to be apologetic and conciliatory this story would probably die allot quicker.. *Plus* once audio enhancement software is used.. if it turns out he did (surprise!) actually say those words, the fact that he lied about saying them will keep this in the news cycle at least through the weekend.

As an Obama supporter, even thought the accuracy of this video would not surprise me--because I really believe the Clinton people are arrogant, shallow and nasty... What if this is proven to be a fraud? Everyone better settle down... If this is not authentic.. a lot of people will have egg on their faces..

Put out something seemingly incriminating and have your opponents roll with it, just to catch them with their pants down once it is revealed to be fake. Remember Rathergate for instance.

I think it is painfully obvious he did not say what people are saying he said. Oh it does sound like he says those people are shit but he is just cutting off his comment because of the camera and mike. He is discussing the republican take on a great day for democrats.

When he says "those people" he is talking about the Bush white house. The unintelligible part must be an inside joke about the repukes.

What people are saying just does not make sense in the context of the situation.
