African-American ministers gather to voice support for Obama

CHICAGO - More than two dozen African-American church leaders say they're behind presidential candidate Barack Obama despite the controversy surrounding the Reverend Jeremiah Wright.

The ministers held a morning news conference to show their support for the Illinois Democrat. They say they're speaking out because they believe all the media attention on Obama's former pastor has diverted attention from important issues.

Wright's comments, including many critical of the U.S. government, have drawn criticism to Obama's campaign. But the ministers urged Americans to support Obama, saying he best represents the nation's hopes and aspirations.

The ministers say Tuesday's Democratic primary in Indiana is critical and that they have "boots and shoes" on the ground in the state for Obama.
