I say both Obama supporters and Clinton supporters move on from the fake Kantor video
The "enhanced audio" version was a fake. It was as fake as astroturf. No way something like that goes unnoticed for 15 years. No freakin' way.

No one should even attempt to deny it was a fake. Still claiming it is real at this point is the most pathetic form of denial I've ever seen.

On the other hand, I see no evidence that anyone in the Obama campaign was actually involved in the forgery. Nor do I see any evidence that this is some sort of Rovian double cross by the Clinton campaign (much like we suspect the CBS memos to have been) to drum up sympathy.

My guess was that it was some overzealous Obama groupie in his basement trying to score points for his man, and failing badly at it in the end.

Now that this is all settled, let's get back to the actual election and the issues, folks.

on Hillary's team.

And I hope he or she does.

15. Have you learned nothing.
You can't be sued for libel for playing a sound bite. Thats why they use them even out of context. Although this one is in context and the ascribed meaning does follow context, the alternate ascription by msnbc/clinton-camp doesn't really follow.

23. I have studied libel law. He certainly can, because Cantor can proof falsity.
That being, an affidavit from the director proving that words were placed in his mouth that he did not utter.

24. Yet a 1993 review of the film gives the same audio interpretation as we heard today.
Don't think that will fly.

25. But the director said that wasn't the case...
already a news organization and a few people on the internet already have listened to it digitally and have concluded it wasn't the case.

And it doesn't make sense that he would say those things in the context of the conversation.

Let's run down the list:

Publication: Two or more people listened to the doctored video.

Defamation: Cantor is being labeled with racist speech that he did not utter.

Falsity: He did not utter those words.

Fault: Someone dragged this out at the 11th Hour in the heat of a primary campaign, and right before the Indiana primary.

Damages: Cantor's reputation.

A libel case this IS.

Who could be hurt by this?

Hill or Obama.

11. Since when does something need to be real to be an issue?
Not saying the interpretation of the audio is accurate or not - it definitely isn't a fake video though. It is just the audio is very low level. But still, nothing about the kitchen sink has been real or accurate or relevant. Why do we start now?

...maybe my posts here at DU are actually a subversive attempt to signal an alien invasion of earth. It's all in the interpretation, right?

Come on, get off it. A fake is a fake, and it was a fake. Move along folks, to bigger and better things.

17. It is in no way a fake...
Edited on Fri May-02-08 01:16 PM by dbonds
You might can say the audio was not interpreted correctly, but it is an actual event, in context, with actual words, from an actual documentary filmed in 92. You can argue interpretation, but not authenticity.

22. Of course, the actual documentary isn't a fake.
No one is saying that it is. That would be, well, stupid.

But the "enhanced audio" version is pretty clearly a fake, and that is the one that has all the inflamatory language in it.

The actual documentary has been around for 15 years and clearly no one has ever made an issue out of it. It's only when some loser posted a bogus "enhanced audio" version that any of these allegations ever came up.

16. They wanna get back to whining about Rev Wright and his outrageous comments taken out of context.
It's so much more germane to Obama than Kantor is to Clinton, who also said "screw 'em" about working blue collar workers.

Yet when Obama has to endure lies, misquotes, and obscure relevant relations is it balls to the wall slime machine?
