This Kantor episode was unfortunate, but the silver lining is that it shows how insane the "gotcha politics" has become. Which is exactly what Obama has been saying for weeks.

It can continue here. This is a non-issue

but I think we should make a point about this, and this hardly is making a point. To make the point of association we need to at least run this 24/7 for 3 weeks, at the very least.

More so, in that Kantor may actually be a bigger distraction for Obama supporters than Wright has been. We need to reject spin like the Wright and Kantor issues, and we need to refocus on defeating McCain.

This particular episode really brought out some of the best and worst in people.

He is a former president and one of the leaders of the party. He should have confined his campaigning to behind-the-scenes work focusing on the superdelegates, speaking at events for party insiders, and potential donors.

Had he done that, he would have maintained some level of support among rank and file and maintained the dignity of his position as ex-president. (I do realize that Bill and dignity are words not often used close together.)

Even Poppy Bush (who I despise) kept a fairly low profile when his idiot son was running. He worked behind the scenes, but publicly he was pretty circumspect. Bill should have followed his lead.
