HoosierGate: The Kantor-Pennebaker Contradiction

Kantor, on Friday, insisted that the latter part of his statement never took place and that it made no sense for him to use such language.
"Indiana was not even on our radar screen," he said, "And I was talking about the polling and not the people... If you look at The War Room, this is not the way Carville or George interpreted my statement. This is frankly libelous."


Ben Smith of Politico today talked to D.A. Pennebaker, director of "The War Room," agreed that the racial slur was not Kantor's, that someone had doctored the video in that other clip.

As for the "Those people are s---" line, Pennebaker told Smith that Kantor had said, "he says they must be s---ing in the White House."



So who is telling the truth here? Was it the Shit Pollsters or the Shitting White House?
Or are they both lying?

It seems the Clinton Camp couldn't get their stories straight at first.

I'm even more certain that this is real after seeing MSNBC running a totally distorted clip to 'debunk', where the audio and video weren't even in sink and all they focused on is the supposed 'white n-ggers' part.
They completely cut out the "those people are shit" line.

Hillary's Damage Control is in action, but will it move fast enough to snuff this?

one possibility (although I don't know what he was saying/thinking for certain) is that,in his view, the entire conversation was about the polling (the Indiana numbers), where as pennebaker's statement may be interpreted as "he says they must be s---ing in the White House."(BECAUSE of the polling/polling numbers) In other words, in both cases polling may be referring to the poll numbers rather than pollsters(which is what I thought when I saw kanton's statement first)vs. polling numbers. Or it could be as you described it, I would chalk it up to ambiguity (which will hopefully be clarified by these two) more than anything else though.

Media Mattters makes it clear that he was talking about "he is, in fact, saying, "Those people are shitting," presumably referring to the Bush campaign's reaction to the poll numbers he was reading."

By the way, why aren't you or anyone else providing proof that he was talking about Indiana? Nobody seems to provide context to show he was talking about Indiana. The transcript is there. Use it
