Almost 311K jobs lost vs 1/4 tank of gas - Obama should hit Clinton/McCain hard on this!
What a classic case of bait and switch!

For the average driver to get about $13 of gas saved this summer --- that is, a SUMMER total; about 311,000 folks could lose their jobs. This is nothing but a lowly bribe and both Hillary/McCain are in bed with this proposal.

Obama should use this as another example of politics as usual and highlight that Hillary has sided again with McCain.
Per Kyle/Lieberman, IWR resolution,...

This is a bread and butter issue, simple to understand, and draws a perfect contrast between the old way and the new. It would make an excellent 11th hour campaign commercial before Tuesday! We are talking 1/4 of a tank of gas for most - 1/2 for me, but I drive a little Honda. :)

All data on above OP thanks to the fine post here:

2. So this is why we need Obama...
so he can explain to us what's wrong with the country. I, for one, don't need anyone to explain it, I want someone who has solutions. The gas tax holiday is a small solutions, but at least it's something. $13. is more than what we get from empty words.

This is not just about the average driver. It mostly effects truck drivers who travel at great distances everyday in vehicles that require a huge amount of gas. Since we are the consumers of the products they are delivery, the increase on gas for them gets passed on to us in higher prices on everything.

No one is saying that this is the greatest idea that anyone ever had. But it's something in a time when nothing at all has been done for the average person. It's a small step in the right direction.

5. Tell that to the 150 economists...
And all the potential people that could lose their jobs how much your $13 dollars is worth.

Did you even read the letter from the economists?

10. If over 300,000
people lose their jobs, it is NOT a solution. HRC is just saying it because it sounds good - the fact that everyone knows that it will be a disaster is irrelevant to her.

11. Part of solutions is standing up against RW policies
and I, for one, am glad to see him stand his ground and not just pander for votes.

6. This is an unplanned gift to Obama from Hillary
Edited on Sat May-03-08 12:16 PM by Bensthename
Every expert on this has come out and said this is a bad idea. All Hillary and her surrogates say in defense is it polls well? WTF, is that how she will run a presidency?

MSM is trying their damnedest to help their queen on this but there is no one that can back her up on this but McCain. Smarty pants experts are out giving the facts on why it is a bad idea and wont work..

Woops, I imagine Hillary will have another crying moment or a scary commercial out today or tomorrow to counter herself..

7. For the life of me I can't understand why he doesn't make this point.
This appeals directly to the white working class, blue collar types, and I've never even heard him mention it. He also didn't put it in any of his commercials. This is a winning argument for him against Hillary with these folks, and I've only heard economists talk about, but nobody from the Obama campaign. It's pretty frustrating. I wish I could grab David Axelrod and ask why the hell they aren't shouting this from the rooftops.
