Do not post cartoons from Iowa Presidential Watch:
Edited on Sat May-03-08 05:08 PM by Zynx
EDIT: To make clear my intention here, this is a public service announcement of how not to spread rightwing propaganda unwittingly:

Some here are quite fond of this cartoon:

However, the very same artist is responsible for these as well:

Any cartoons from that website are right-wing trash and more generally do not post anything that has Linda Eddy as its artist. You may as well post shit from the RNC.

Nuff said.

4. Had you seen the Hillary "I'm melting" cartoon?
That's where this is from.

5. I don't *think* I have, to be honest.
If I *did* see it, it certainly wasn't very memorable.

I've gotten to the point where I rarely post on DU anymore, and I certainly don't click on the "bashing" threads of either candidate here in GDP. I'm tired of the negativity (and trolls), so I lurk in GDP most of the time for actual news.

6. Question: So why are you posting them?
I agree that those cartoons are trash. I never knew about them until you posted them. And of course, since you posted all of them here, they will now just get that much more exposure.

9. I'm making the point because if I said, "Don't post these" without context no one would listen.
People have been posting them and I've tried to tell people before and they still don't listen.

17. Right, I understand.
and I'm not accusing you of anything nefarious. But, those people that you say don't listen, I'm sure, already know that the artist is right-wing trash. If someone is posting the "melting" one that you say is popular here, well, I would assume that they are a troll anyway, so of course they won't listen to your pleas not to post them.

All I'm saying is posting them here just gives that artist more exposure to his/her/its trash art.

26. From now on though, everyone knows what this garbage is and there
is a distinctive style to watch out for. If you see any cartoons that look like this, the odds are they are rightwing trash. People have to be informed.

I do take some small solace in knowing that Ms. Eddy will suffer alongside other Americans as the US economy contracts and/or collapses in the coming years....

19. I don't welcome it at all -but the reality is that natural and macroeconomic laws DO apply
to Americans -even though many like to believe that the US is somehow exceptional and doesn't have to "pay the piper."

Bottom line is that the American lifestyle and its supporting service economies are based on cheap energy- and twin deficits (current account/trade and the federal budget).

The situation is simply not sustainable and irrational Republican policies- promoted by equally irrational people like this cartoonist have hastened its demise and substantially worsened the probable consequences for everyone in the states- and for many who live abroad.

29. Yes I do believe you did, your choice of all of the cartoons from that site and you chose
Nancy Pelosi, Jimmy Carter and John Kerry, Hmmm what do they have in common.

And the Kerry cartoons you chose, very interesting selection.

If you didn't make the choices on purpose to send a specific message then you need to realize how powerful the subconscious is as a window to our intentions.

32. You have a very shallow view of things.
I happen to like Jimmy Carter and Nancy Pelosi a great deal. John Kerry not so much.

I selected the most offensive right-wing crap from that website that I could find to make the point the website is crap. I repeatedly said it was shit. The only way your argument works is if you already assume away I have some deep-down right wing agenda I am trying to push here which I don't. I am making the point that DUers have been posting cartoons from this website routinely and I am sick of it.

Far from shallow, thats a very in depth point, to understand how strong the subconscious can be in controlling ones choices.

Edited on Sat May-03-08 05:11 PM by Forkboy
I've seen the first one used here more than a few times, and it's no different than pointing out to someone that uses a RW source against one candidate that often that same source is against the other one too, and can be used in the same way.

Nothing sneaky about telling people not to use RW sources either for stories or cartoons on a progressive/Democratic site.
