Poll question: When do you think Hillary Clinton will suspend her campaign?
On May 6th Sen. Obama will reduce his Pelosi magic number to approximately 40 delegates. How long will it take for Hillary to end her campaign?

When the black man and woman with the funny name move into her old "government housing" bedroom.

Some Clinton supporter earlier today was lamenting that poor Hillary had to live in "government housing" for most of her marriage.......like.........the Arkansas Governor's Mansionn and the White House........government housing!

4. I think she'll be the nominee. Otherwise she's in through the convention. And that IS the best way
to unify the party--it legitimizes Obama's nomination, rather then have it appear--correctly--that he bullied her out of the race.

Obama's people know that having him win it at the convention is the best way to unify the party--they just want to lock in a victory.

12. I think she's very unlikely to be the nominee. And if Obama is put
over the top within the next few weeks and she stays in after that, she'll become a national joke. Furthermore, her SD support will largely go to Obama. SDs do not want this going to the convention. They've made that clear. She'll destroy her own career if she does this. And the last thing, I imagine, that Obama's people want is for this to go to the convention. They know history, and they know that a nominee emerging from a contentious convention is fatally wounded.

36. Wishful thinking from Obama people. Hillary is solid in NY and the voters aren't going to be
spun into thinking she did something wrong just because Obama really wanted to lock in a victory. My guess is that in July there will be a lull in the race, where both candidates focus on McCain. In August they will go to the convention where one of them will win and the other will be expected to endorse them. End of story. Obama gets the nomination when a majority of the delegates to the Democratic convention in Denver vote for him--no sooner.

Edited on Tue May-06-08 05:22 PM by Exilednight
She's pretty much abandoned us since this campaign started heating up. Her only saving grace is that NYC has long term memory loss when it comes to their Senators.

49. You mean that she needs to kiss and make-up with you. Obama supporters don't speak for
all New Yorkers, or all Democrats. There is an arrogance to Obama supporters where they seem to think that they have led a revolution that has swept through the party. In reality, they have 50% of the vote. For every Obama supporter there is a Hillary supporter. End of story. Hillary won't mend fences in NY by apologizing for running for president or believing that she was more qualified then Obama. She has every right to take those positions. And people who are convinced that her career is in shambles--four years from now--are simply caught up in their own rhetoric and ideology.

In reality, most voters are not as obsessed. Hillary has been a good Senator. I expect that if she is not elected president then she will easily be re-nominated and re-elected. But as in 2000 and 2006 there will probably be a losing Democratic primary challenger, and hard-core Obama people, who hate Hillary, will get to join the minority who vote for him/her.

50. She hasn't been a good Senator. This is my second time living in NY since Hillary became a ........
Senator. Nothing has changed, and very few, if any, of her campaign promises have been kept. She won because of name recognition, but this Presidential election has show her blemishes as Senator, things many NYers overlooked.

I honestly believed she would keep her seat here, if she decided to run again, but now I have serious doubts after talking with many people here. There are already groups being formed to block her from winning a third term in the Senate.

If the GE were held tomorrow, and Hillary was the nominee, current polling shows she would lose NY to McCain by around 3 points. Now I do realize that is well within the margin of error, but that's a pretty telling sign of her popularity here. Her advantage is that 4 years is a lifetime in politics. Plenty of time to repair her image and keep a Senate seat, but I think running for POTUS again is out of the question.

53. I used to and I still spend a lot of time there. I'm sure I'll be back eventually. And I look
forward to voting for Hillary in 2012, either for president or for senator. Obama people believe Hillary will be defeated because they want to believe it. You want to believe that "she's been exposed for who she really is." But when a candidate has won two elections with 55% and 67% that usually means they are in good shape.

Besides, if Obama wins the nomination he is going to have to reach out to her in a huge way. I realize that his supporters think she is irrelevant and Obama has no need to make that effort. But the facts--and the exit polls--tell a very different story. He is going to have to heep praise on her, retract some of the things he said about her, ask his supporters to retract their statements and ask her to campaign for him--possibly nominate him. You may not like that, but you'll have to get over it. Obama will need her in a big way.

59. He may do that, but he doesn't HAVE to do it to win. He could also pick a woman to ...........
to run as VP. The Governor of Kansas would be a good choice and she would attract the same, if not more, of the same demographics that Hillary does.

60. I disagree. I think he does HAVE to. I don't think Hillary's supporters are primarily motivated
by her gender. Picking a woman doesn't get him their votes. I'm a man and he is far from getting my vote. He needs to acknowledge Sen. Clinton, her record, her decency, and her campaign. He can't just act like he won and that validates him as having been right about her. He needs to win over her share of the vote, and that isn't coming from voters who are determined to elect a woman.

Still...you've been a lot more friendly then many other Obama posters I've exchanged thoughts with. So I appreciate your willingness to be civil.

29. There is no nuclear option
. There is no nuclear option
One guy without sources made a stinking pile of dung.

The people on the rules committee have been in leadership roles for years in the party and love the party more than either candidate that they may now support. The people prmoting this could not name a single person on the committee they think would support it.

Beyond that it isn't with the rules committee. Credential challenges would go to the credential committee and then to the floor of the convention. There is no 'nuclear option' that gives Hillary MI and FL without a floor fight.

Today Hillary confirmed again that it will be decided before the convention.

Even though they sometimes make moves that look stupid to us they are not stupid people. They know the math. Up to today she had a shot. Tomorrow she doesn't. If she decides tonight she has a chance to go out on top.

She's in 'death ground' mode. She'll quit when pulled kicking and screaming out of the convention hall in Denver or when the party performs an intervention.
