Obama's Own Pander

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/

The environmental news site Grist turns up a mailer the Obama campaign has sent out to Kentucky voters, and posts it under the title "Obama's own pander."

The reporter, Kate Sheppard, notes that widespread "clean coal" -- plants built with carbon sequestration technology -- is about a decade away and "Obama's policies would amount to a suspension of commercial coal-plant construction for the duration of his term, whether it's four or eight years."

Touting "clean Kentucky coal" -- which won't exist for a decade -- cuts against his message, especially in the wake of the gas tax holiday debate, of telling voters hard truths. Sheppard writes:

There's a difficult conversation to be had with voters in coal states like Kentucky about the fate of coal and the steps political leaders can take to help coal communities through the coming transition. For the moment, at least, Obama seems unwilling to have that conversation.

Speaks for itself...the interesting part is how many BO supporters will try to spin this as something "completely different."

Reporter Kate Sheppard can see the future 10 years from now. Wow. I'm impressed.

On edit: changed he to she.

6. Yeah, cuz anything that takes more than 2 seconds ain't worth doing.
Fuck clean coal, then. Who wants to wait that long? I'm a soundbite, give-it-to-me-now kinda guy.

Waiting for things? Working toward a long-term goal? Thinking of the next generation?

What is he, some kind of fucking communist?

Probably works for the KGB, I bet.

Probably an atheist, too. Wouldn't surprise me, telling us that we need cleaner fuel sources.

:eyes:

8. Well, then why don't you explain what the hell you mean by posting it?
So far, the fact that it's gonna take ten years is the only downside I see to talking about clean coal.

We aren't mind readers, here - if you post something without commentary, all we can do is read it the way we would normally.

Speaking personally, I think being worried about the envirnment, and caring enough to actually do something about it, is a good thing.
