"we cannot win with eggheads and African Americans"
Paul Begala on CNN.

We know you were a Clinton employee, but fuck man, you are a tad transparent this evening. I thought Donna Brazile was about to clobber him (rightfully so)

64. That story that Stevenson told a woman at a rally he was at is particularly applicable.
She said "You have the vote of every thinking person in this country!"

Stevenson replied, "That's not enough, madam, we need a majority!"

47. You know, I have to add
this whole idea perpetuated by the Clinton campaign that intelligence and education are somehow bad things - that they make you "elite" and uninterested in the "common man" is just bunk.

And the entire country needs to quit it. One of the chief considerations we should be making when choosing our leaders is intelligence. I hate that it's become some sort of bad thing - the same way RWers have thrown around "liberal" like it's a bad word.

I want a president who makes me stop and think. I want one who I think is smarter than I am. (And I don't think I'm at all stupid, thanks). I want someone more intelligent, more accomplished than I am. And I'm pretty sure that lets out McCain. I know for damn sure that let out Bush!

81. the assumption that intelligence necessarily correlates with education
Edited on Tue May-06-08 11:21 PM by jbm
is false. You can find highly intelligent people in every economic level. You can find idiots in every economical level as well. My own experience tells me that the percentages are pretty much the same.

My guess would be the difference is that the educated people have a higher income, so they're less tuned in to conditions that feel threatening to the working class. In other words, their vote doesn't reflect more information-it reflects less information.

102. I think your second point is a pretty big assumption
and unfair to many educated people who choose to spend their time, money and efforts helping those with less. And of course education does not always equal life experience, either. I don't think you can assume that a well-educated person would be ignorant of conditions for those in the working class.

And of course there are intelligent people lacking college or higher diplomas. But an intelligent person *will* be educated - whether self or by a learning institution. If there is natural intelligence, but no interest in developing it, then like a muscle, it will atrophy.

48. It's about The Base
The Base who voted Democrat in 2000 and 2004. It's Republicans crossing over. I really believe those Republicans will watch a 'Terror Alert' on Faux News the Sunday before the election . . . and rush to vote for McCain.

It's about getting The Base out to vote. Whether that jack off wants to admit it or not - at the end of the day . . . The Base is getting their way on this. Whether they are a Clinton or an Obama supporter - The Base showed up today.

If we can get people who are disgusted to come out this November AND get their votes to count - we will have the White House.

82. what does it mean..
when supposed Democrats bash the people who don't have college educations and dismiss the working class as ignorant? This thread is filled with stuff that no decent liberal would ever write.

Oh Nooz! The Obama’s are pandering to the uneducated Bubba’s & BHO gets stuck on REPEAT

Guess BHO did not quite have his new pander story memorized! I am sure it went better today.

…… Sitting on a picnic bench in a park on Pagoda Street, Indianapolis, in discussion with a group of 30 supporters, he told a story about the "modest" background of himself and his wife, Michelle.

And 10 minutes later, seemingly having forgotten, he told them it all again.

Obama's wife joins push to court working class

By Caren Bohan 1 hour, 54 minutes ago

INDIANAPOLIS (Reuters) - If Michelle Obama had her way, her husband Barack would be a teacher, a writer, a singer, a dancer -- anything but a politician with the chance to make history as the first black president of the United States.

She described to an audience in Indianapolis how they struggled, like any other young couple in Middle America, to raise two children and pay off debts.

and what Paul, the bitter is not factoring in is this..

disgusted republicans with a candidate they don't like, will sit it out..and all those wonderful NEW people..excited people that joined Obama's adventure WILL stick around..

Paul's pissed because the DLC is going to be emptied like an overflowing trash can, and the hold that the Clintons had on things is OVER..

91. Raw Story has the video
Democratic strategist Donna Brazile, who managed the campaign of Al Gore in the 2000 election, got into a heated back-and-forth with fellow talking heads on CNN amid discussions of Tuesday’s primary results.

Paul Begala, political consultant and former adviser to President Bill Clinton, began by saying, “Some of the commentary tonight kinda bothers me. If point is that there’s a new Democratic Party that somehow doesn’t need or want white working class people and Latinos, well count me out.

“We cannot win with eggheads and African-Americans,” Begala warned, which got an animated rise out of Brazile, yielding laughter and applause from those in CNN’s studio.

CNN host Campbell Brown chimed in, saying of Obama, “Why hasn’t he been able to (reach out to blue-collar white voters) yet?”

Responded Brazile, “Do you think that Barack Obama would be leading in the pledged votes, the delegate votes, the money, if it was simply because somehow or another black people … became the majority? Barack Obama has won the hearts and the minds of white voters as well as black and Hispanics.”

This campaign I've lost all respect for Begala and Carville - they're both asses!

106. Bush is not an egghead
Begala is beltway insider has been. That's why he's a HRC supporter. The country is ready for an egghead because they are now in the visceral process of what it FEELS like with a moronic fuck up in charge. It FEELS extraordinarily painful and I think the country will vote for anyone who is smart and different vs. McCain (Bush III). We could put a giraffe up and he would beat McCain handily.
