Lieberman is still a democrat even though he is campaigning for McCain. Does party affiliation or voting pattern determine what party you belong to?

He left the party after he was drummed out by Ned Lamont.

But, that forum was made because this place was perceived as too pro-Obama, and the participants were all from here. And they still post here.

But I think the charge is valid for posters that are out-and-out saying that they'll vote for John McCain, which I have seen at least twenty of them say.

The poster just simply stated that those people are making Republican-like comments.

There's a difference.

Or for that matter, when Gore didn't get in.

I guess the words "Magnanimous in Victory" will never cross your lips. Never occurred to you that they feel exactly the same way?

Her supporters facing reality and abandoning her to support the presumptive nominee is part of that process. Yes, she lost - but she lost months ago. They just didn't want to admit to the math; but let the fact that she had already lost months ago salve the wound. It isn't as though she was a viable candidate who just got bumped out last night. She's been the walking dead for a while.

Personal feelings don't even enter this. At a certain point you need to be pragmatic and face reality and let your intellect rule over your heart. There's too much at stake not to do so. WAY too much at stake.

am a very pragmatic person to an extreme. my father called me that once as if it was an insult or criticism. i didnt get it. lol. pragmatic works for me.

that is exactly what is missing from the hillary supporters. and i truly do not get it.

when you've invested so much hope and emotion in a candidate. When you truly BELIEVE that your candidate is the best to help our country at this time.

If Obama gets the nom, it'll be a process for Hillary's supporters to heal (like it was for me when my candidate dropped out). We all may be political wonks, but we're all people who have invested a lot in our candidate - be gentle.

Never in my life have I wanted someone to win as I do with Hillary. And you're right, it's going to take a long time to heal for me.

I try to be polite and civil all (okay most) of the time, but this is politics, not touchy happy feel good time. This is the future of our country, there has been talk of people refusing to support their party's nominee if it isnt "their" candidate, and we are concerned about feelings?

Let me be very clear. I prefer Obama. I will support either Hillary or Obama, who ever wins the nomination. Hillary can stay in the race as long as she wants for all I care. But if you expect me to coddle anyone along the way you have another thing coming.

I consider refusal to support the nominee, whoever it is, to be a betrayal of country, party, community and personal values.(assuming they are in truth a democrat not a member of Operation Chaos)

I'm seeing a WHOLE LOT of these sentiments, in several forms, starting to pop up all over DU. They may be general and neutral, they may come from Obama supporters seeking to welcome and comfort and embrace people from other camps, they may come from Clinton supporters expressing courageous conversions - heart-felt, sincere, and quite eloquent ones, too.

I'm loving this! Not much uncharitable stuff I've seen yet. I'm humbled and impressed. Everybody thought there was going to be wholesale bitterness and anguish - from any side. Turns out there's just a wee bit. The prevailing expression is one of "okay, we can see which way the cookie is crumbling. Let's move on from here to the business at hand." As the late California Senator Alan Cranston said when suspending his brief and far less lustrous campaign for president back in the day, "I know how to count votes."

There are indeed some who are seriously hurting, disappointed - even heartsick. They're sincere and I appreciate their willingness to share how they feel so honestly, and gracefully.

Look, if it helps any, here's one way to look at it if I may humbly offer a suggestion. Think of it as a situation where we ALL, hell, even the mcsame supporters, WIN. WE ALL WIN. Publishers Clearinghouse Sweepstakes! You may already be a winner! If it's Barack Obama who carries our banner, his very doing that means we have actually, formally, opened the Twenty-First Century. We have turned a monolithic page - where a representative of the most disenfranchised groups in American history rises All. The. Way. To. The. TOP. "To go where no man has gone before" and all that. Hey! Obama's the Enterprise! When that happens, we wake up the next morning realizing we're citizens of an entirely new and just newly evolved nation. At that moment, there may not even be that much of an emotional rush. It may be such a quiet, core-deep feeling of realization that kinda changes the charge on the ol' molecules or something. At that moment, we'll be saying to ourselves and to each other - "wow - we really have changed. It's different now. We're not who we were, having taken such a profound step forward."

That's a win. Whoever wakes up as an American on the morning after the election shares that win. Just because. Everybody wins because the entire country, en masse, has just taken a substantial leap forward. And it's THAT country we'll all be living in! We'll be inhabitants of a new-and-improved, suddenly more grown-up America. That's a great, most needed, most welcome change for all of America, as we start to heal and try to promote healing for the last horrid seven-and-some years. We'll have made history together, because we ALL will have played a part in it - whoever we were for, originally. Simply sharing the journey makes it a win for everyone and anyone here.
