Nobody talking about Hill's 9/11 statement
in her speech last night? Right out of the Bush/Karl Rove playbook AND IN INDIANA?

Also - her crowd seemed very small in comparison to Obama's crowd in North Carolina. Seemed like only upclose camera shots of Hillary's crowd.

It would be a little strange to have a nominee chosen by 48 states. We've got a long road ahead, but we're going to keep fighting on that path for America, because America is worth fighting for. And we believe in America's potential and possibility that has so ignited hope and the dreams of people throughout our country and around the world. People who left everything behind in order to come here and be part of this great experiment in democracy; dissidents and dreamers on every continent who look to us and our ideals for their hope and inspiration. All those around the world who wept for us and prayed for us on September 11th, who laid wreaths and flew flags at half mast and printed that unforgettable headline, "We are all Americans." That is the reach of America's embrace, through time, place and history.

And I know we can once again open our arms to the world. We can once again be the can-do nation; a nation that defies the odds and greets the future with optimism and hope. There isn't anything America can't do once we make up our minds to start acting like Americans again. And that is exactly what we intend to do. Thank you, and God bless you and God bless America.

10. I don't get the problem
Unless you think it's a cheap shot to use 9/11. I think it's worth telling Americans and the world that we realize how much support we had at that moment, and how we've squandered that... or Bush did, to put a finer point on things.

Would it be a bad thing to say this? I think both candidates would have been wise to say this. I hope the world knows we aren't all GWB and we think better of their support than he did.

12. After 7 years of Bush running 9/11 in the ground
it really sounded to me like she was "using" it - although the words spoken would not bear that out. But she used most of Obama's speech after the initial begging for money, and then ended up on the 9/11 note. I just can't bear to hear it used by any politician anymore.

14. It has nothing to do with anything at this point.
Bringingup 9/11 unprompted equals political fear-mongering/security pandering at this point.

America may have suffered an attack 6 years ago, but we've used that attack to start two wars and killed well over 100,000 people, so we've pretty much used 9/11 up. People have every right to groan when those digits come out of a politician's mouth, especially one pledging to obliterate Iran.

Pity it's that way. I blame Bush... that rat bastard has left a mark on us we won't soon get rid of, regardless of who follows.

16. She and Bill had no concern for that point when they were defending Bush in 2004
and Bill was doing so repeatedly throughout his summer2004 book tour - gee - wonder why.

18. Bill defended Bush's decisions on terrorism and Iraq war throughout his summer2004 book tour.
He certainly didn't care that the rest of the world viewed Bush as a monster then.

19. Oh yeah... I remember him being beaten up around here for that.
Strangely, somehow many people seem to have erased that from their minds... and insist that the Clintons were just adored right up until this primary started.

Baffling.

20. Most of DU was horrified that Clinton would so PUBLICLY defend Bush repeatedly - and even bragged
about his support of Bush to the press.

Creepy and deliberate to bolster support for Bush's commander-in-chief decisions.

Which is very Bush-like.

It doesn't bother me that much though. It's going to be like "God bless you and God bless America" soon.

God bless you! 9-11! God bless you!

23. I don't see anything wrong with her statement. She was saying that
after 9/11, the world reached out to America. She was saying that after 9/11, we had the world on our side. She was saying that we can, again, rejoin the world community, and regain the respect, empathy, camaraderie, and admiration that Bush squandered. Do you disbelieve that? Do you think that Bush *hasn't* blown our post-9/11 standing on stupid wars?

Not all references to 9/11 are out of the Bush-Rove playbook.
