The majority of DU members are sane, rational Democrats.
In GD P, you can witness the childish rantings of a very small but LOUD minority salted with a few Republican disruptors.

Check the early DU straw polls.

Initially, Dennis Kucinich was strongly favored by a large majority on DU.

When DK dropped out, the sane and rational DU Democrats moved on to the next most progressive candidate...John Edwards.

When John Edwards dropped out, the majority of the sane and rational DU Democrats moved their support to the least conservative of the remaining candidates....Barack Obama.

In the early DU straw polls, Hillary and Obama were the least supported candidates on DU (by far).

The migration to remaining viable candidates indicates that the great majority of DU members are sane, issues oriented Democrats who will vote for the Democrat that best represents their political orientation. Had Hillary beaten Obama, this group would have moved their support to her.
The reality is that Barack Obama is the last candidate standing, and the great majority of DUers WILL vote for him in the GE.

Most sane DUers* quit posting to GD P a long time ago when it was defaced by a handful of partisan fanatics. It is time to ignore them and move on to supporting our nominee. The Majority of DU members have already decided to support the Democratic nominee.

*I'm not a member of the sane group of DUers who have quit posting to GDP.

"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans. I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans, family farmers, and people who haven't felt the benefits of the economic upturn."---Paul Wellstone

1. How dare you slander us all in that way!
Edited on Thu May-08-08 12:05 AM by NewHampshireDem
Oh, wait.

Nevermind.

We are all democrats. ;)

On edit: You deserved a more thorough reply than that, so here it goes.

Thank you for the reminder about where we've come from. Although I have to admit that considering the large number of DK supporters here, and the large number of JE supporters here, that some DU'ers feel it's okay to slam the 'left wing' of our party.

The ignore list is becoming my best friend now :) Obama's as safe from internet trolls as he's going to get so off to ignore with pot-stirrers and waste of time posters from now on.

5. I'm personally pretty tired of how childish a lot of people are in GD:P.
People need to get over it and just be civil to one another.

Grow up, jeez.

Nice Op, by the way. Isn't Gravel fairly progressive? Though retarded? I wouldn't recommend voting for him by any means, but isn't he more progressive than Edwards?

To me Edwards was more populist than progressive. I think there's a slight difference between the two, but yea I guess Obama would come in right after him.

8. There were some valid sub divisions.
I was posting about the broad migration from Kucinich to Obama (and Hillary if necessary).

The majority consensus from the DU straw polls was:
Kucinich > Edwards > Obama.

The migration of support was not without some grief, but was generally peaceful, and representative of the majority of DU.

10. The "egotistical meanness" belongs to the very small MINORITY
It does not belong to DU, the Democratic Party, or the nominee.

You may give this handful of anonymous keyboard warriors rent free space in your head if you must, but don't let it stop you from supporting the Democratic nominee.

11. Nonsense ....

This place was a cesspool ....

I STILL have this forum invisible .... That is not going to change .....

Pure ugliness .... and rarely a call for unity anywhere .....

You give yourself too much credit ....

I have supported ALL Democratic candidates from the start ... and I still support BOTH Clinton AND Obama ....

No ... The ugly attacks will not be forgotten .... Many DUers participated in this self centered bloodbath .... They have defined their own souls here, and that doesn't go away ....

14. Really, I was starting to feel like the only one.
You just described my process with the candidates, and then my response within the GDP community.

It's been hard, and I've gotten madder than I should have. I'm not a scorched-earth ranter, don't get me wrong, but it's been hard here. I sincerely do want us to pull together and beat the living snot out of Punk (his nickname in high school...that and McNasty).

I'll support the nominee, too. I really hope that folks (from both sides) in GDP will start to make that easier to swallow soon.

We have to crush them. Seriously, in order to defeat whatever nasty vote-stealing or manipulation the republicans have in store for us...we have to crush them with our numbers. It has to be a massive blowout.

Let's not forget that.
