To my dear pro-Hillary DUers
I've been trying to understand the reasons why several Clinton supporters seem to dislike Obama so much, to the point of preferring McCain to him. I opened a thread about it, and the most cited reasons were that either "we don't like him" or "we don't trust him"- or a combination of either two with a "Hillary- yes, Obama- no; No matter what" attitude.

Dear Pro-Hillary DUers: I admire your passion. Your dedication and how invested you all are in your candidate; I would've been devastated had Obama lost the primary. So, I understand the feelings of disbelief, anger and dissapointment many of you are feeling right now. Hillary Clinton is a FORMIDABLE Democrat and would have been a great president. She is still an essential figure in our party, and she might even wind up on the ticket, or as Senate Majority Leader, or as Governor of NY... the options for her are endless.

However, I would ask you to understand that as unfair you might think the results of this process have been, all the candidates knew what they were getting into, and they fought hard to prevail, but only the best player could win, and he did. Hillary Clinton fought a great fight- she is still fighting, and won't be KOed, she'll lose a hard fought decision. But we, the Democratic voters across the nation, gave Obama the nod.

The media was unfair to both of our candidates. That's true. Florida and Michigan are a mess, and hopefully there will be a solution for us and for the benefit of the party. Hillary has decided to keep fighting and she has the right to, and good luck to her. The race card was played by BOTH camps, just as the gender card was at a certain moment played. It was a tough, hard-fought primary, and we could waste a lot of time talking about the imperfections and unfair aspects of the process.

But we know it's over now, and the Democratic voters were the ones that decided the outcome of this in the end. Barack Obama, in reality, didn't force anyone to vote for him over Hillary- millions of us did, and we alone are responsible for those votes. So, to project in Barack the decision we voters have made is simply unfair, just like it is unfair to question Hillary's commitment to the party just because she is fighting as hard as she can. Barack and Hillary are on the same team, and they will fight together against the Republicans in November, no doubt about it.

So, I don't want to ask you to throw your support to Obama right away. I just want you to remember that we are ONE PARTY, ONE TEAM. The primary was an internal process, among people with similar ideologies and visions for the country, people that represent our hopes and dreams for the future as a Nation. Whoever got the nomination was going to represent the best the Democratic Party has to offer, and we had about 8 candidates running, of which about 6 of them in my opinion were simply formidable. But only one could win.

I'm asking you to forgive those who have said offensive things about your candidate- nasty things have been said about both of our candidates. It's time to look forward as a party. It's time to focus on the ORIGINAL AND FINAL GOAL: save the country from REPUBLICANS. JOHN MC CAIN IS NOT OUR FRIEND. HE'S NOT AN OPTION. HE'S THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT WE BELIEVE IN.

OBAMA AND HILLARY REPRESENT THE ONLY HOPES WE HAVE RIGHT NOW AS A NATION- THEY ARE OUR LEADERS. LET'S NOT FORGET IT...

Let's look forward.... it's not about your candidate winning or losing- it's about America winning or losing, and with a Democrat in the WH, we all win.

A hug for you all,
-Katz

Just getting a Dem in the White House, when can we expect O to announce his withdrawal from the campaign. For the good of the party...of course.

12. Why should the one with the nomination withdraw -- because you want to get your way?
I'm serious -- some of the most selfish nonsense has been posted by putative Hillary supporters. I can't believe they ARE supporters ... no Democrat could be dumb enough to vote for the GOP (and if you don't vote for the Democrat, you may as well vote for the GOP).

We don't have to vote if we don't want to. And we won't vote for an inexperienced candidate like O.

17. I'm spiteful because one less vote for a Democrat means one MORE vote for the GOP
It's one less GOP vote you will not cancel out -- damned right I'm spiteful. You non-participating, corner sulkers are as bad as the Republicans. The alternative is a lunatic, right-wing fundamentalist lover like McCain. Is your loss important enough to overturn legal abortion and birth control in this goddamned country??????????????? My candidate was Edwards but I'm voting Democrat regardless because the alternative is unthinkable.

So thank you, moping Hillary supporters, for handing over yet another four years to the fucking GOP.

25. Just remember one thing.
When someone posts that they will not vote for a Democrat on a forum entirely dedicated to Democrats, it is purely for attention. Oh, it's true - they may mean what they say, but ask yourself why they bother post this position?

I can think of NO REASON to post AGAINST the entire concept of a message board (this one is about electing Democrats - check the rules) other than to get attention. If someone's motive is getting attention, they CAN NOT be reasoned with. They don't want to be rational.

In other words, it is futile.

Don't bother feeding them.

22. Thanks for not bashing her like so many Obama supporters
We all know that he'll get the nomination. Just give her some time to bow out on her own terms. There are plenty of good Democrats who still support her. Give them a chance to just vote, even if you think it is meaningless.

At the end, we'll all come together and vote for the Democratic nominee.

My father-in-law told me about how his father talked about JFK and him being a catholic. His father didn't say too many nice things about "them catholics" ... but in the end, when he asked his dad how he voted, he said "I am a Democrat and I'll never vote for anything else." My in-laws support Hillary and so am I. My husband supports Obama. In the end, we are all yellow dog democrats. We'll never vote for a Republican.

Just give it some time. Hillary supporters on DU got quite bruised by all the bashing we received for daring to support her. However, most of us realize it is just DU and not the real world. Just slightly more Democrats prefer Obama to Hillary. So, she can't be as bad as you'd think she is reading DU.

If we would see more posts like yours, Katzenkavalier, there would be less acrimony.

Peace...:hi:

I may not be the most passionate of supporters when it comes to Obama, for my own reasons. But I will support and vote for him come November. It's going to take a while for me to get on board with you all. Once the stomping all over Hillry's grave and calling for her complete and total ruin is over, THEN I will join you.

Until then I will continue to defend a woman I feel is a good Liberal Democrat and someone I respect and admire.

27. The premise of your thread is wrong.
There are hardly any Clinton supporters on DU who've said they would not vote for Obama. On the other hand, at least 50% of the Obama supporters on DU will not vote for Clinton. So, try appealing to your side - that's where the un-American, non-Democrats are.

38. Someday, Maybe You'll Get It
Edited on Fri May-09-08 04:20 PM by Crisco
Someday maybe it will sink into you and the other white men in the party that maybe it wasn't such a good idea to promote the first ever viable African-descended candidate by depicting the first ever viable female candidate as a racist and/or a race-baiter, while at the same time heaping sexist attack upon sexist attack at that candidate and simultaneously pushing the meme that good girls vote for Obama.

There was never any great amount of difference between the candidates, in their voting records and their stances on the issues. What it came down to was, which historic candidacy was going to get the nod. And the white men chose to go with the guy, but in order to make it happen, they had to rip the shit out of the gal.

Right now it appears he will get the nomination; if he should do so and win the presidency, I'd like to be able to take some joy in the idea of our first black president. Right now I just can't imagine where that will come from, knowing what was done to peel the female vote away from his opponent. You want me to vote for Obama? Give me a fucking reason and don't even think about starting with the "Roe v Wade" shit. That pig ain't flying.

Let me make it perfectly clear: I don't hate Obama. My scorn is for the white men in the Democratic party who gave the nod to this strategy, and who think they're going to have great jobs as advisers in an Obama administration.
