Another SD defection from Clinton.
http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2008/05/congressman_payne_nj_superdele.html

Congressman Payne, NJ superdelegate, switches from Clinton to Obama

Rep. Donald Payne (D-10th Dist.), a New Jersey superdelegate who had been supporting Hillary Clinton for president, has switched his allegiance to Barack Obama.

"After careful consideration, I have reached the conclusion that Barack Obama can best bring about the change that our country so desperately wants and needs," Payne told The Star-Ledger for today's editions. It was "one of the most difficult decisions I have made," Payne said. "I've really been mulling it over for quite a while."

I think that 48 hour grace period just expired. That was posted 5 minutes past midnight.

22. I'm wondering if that list is accurate...
...though it says it was updated today. Move Rick Larsen of WA over to Obama (according to Gregory/MSNBC)... but I thought Pilar Lujan of Guam already endorsed Obama? In any case... he's closing in!

But after the "white Americans" comment I think Obama needs to put this down. If she keeps going the divide will be too great to bridge.

19. I'm afraid your right.
I really thought that she was smart enough - and loyal enough - to run a clean campaign until Kentucky so she could go out on a high note. Instead she's using race in the bluntest possible manner and creating strife in MI and FL over delegates.

She's decided to continue the scorched earth politics so Obama will have to crush her.

29. When will the other half of the Congressional Black Caucus step forward?

Payne called Clinton "a good friend" whom he holds "in high regard." He said he had "worked closely" with both Hillary Clinton and President Clinton, "especially with international activities in Africa and Haiti." He said Hillary Clinton "ran a very aggressive campaign" but he did not blame her -- as some have -- for injecting race into the campaign.

Well, Payne it is about time. What about Stephanie Tubbs Jones? If I have to see her face out on the circuit riding for Hillary Clinton one more day, I might pull my hair out.

I would be curious if her OH protege that kept coming on HardBall when OH was voting will come out of this ok? I felt bad for each one of them especially when they both said their districts were telling them off every where they went.

There are far too few of you, CBC members, for you to have made yourselves so vulnerable. I don't think it will be good news for Philadelphia's mayor either.

I hope after this election, you SD change the rules so you will not take the heat on election day. Democracy does not need a fail safe for McGovern or anyone else. The whole point of a democracy is that the people will eventually choose to do the right thing.

After 2 elections of W, I think the nation will be willing to come together on the issues NOT RACE AND NOT GENDER OR AGE FOR THAT MATTER.<[/h1>

23. It was just speculated on.
A lot of people figured that the SDs wouldn't immediately pile on and drum her out, that they'd give her a day or two to digest what had happened and present a way to exit gracefully. It was never anything officially stated or hinted at, just a general consensus of opinion among onlookers.

35. Zogby posted the 48-hour theory on Wednesday...

My understanding is that probably today, but certainly within 48 hours, about 30 super-delegates will endorse Mr Obama. That should give him further momentum.

26. SD's hearing her 'white voter' comment must have seen the need to move faster.
I think the two days to digest and discuss and hearing her talking today about White voters and her base must have push some to move. Earlier this week Edwards was saying he would focus on issues. Now he's giving an exclusive tomorrow on Today after his campaign manager endorses BO. I think no one will standby and watch Hil drag everyone down for her imagined remaining chance at the WH.

Edited on Fri May-09-08 12:34 AM by Stephanie
There was a DU thread that she went to the Hill and people made excuses not to meet with her, and she had to cancel a dinner she had planned to hold for superdelegates. That's major egg on the face. I think it will end very soon.

(snipped some from the top)
But we believe just as strongly that Mrs. Clinton will be making a terrible mistake — for herself, her party and for the nation — if she continues to press her candidacy through negative campaigning with disturbing racial undertones. We believe it would also be a terrible mistake if she launches a fight over the disqualified delegations from Florida and Michigan.

In addition to abandoning the attack ads, Mrs. Clinton must drop her plans to fight to seat the delegations from Florida and Michigan, which defied the Democratic Party and moved up the dates of their primaries. A lot of people voted in Florida anyway, but Mrs. Clinton should not pursue this nuclear option. It would make the Democrats look unable to control their own, just when they want to make a case that they can lead the entire nation.

Both candidates have been vowing in the last two days to unite the party, and Mr. Obama could do more to rein in his anonymous campaign aides and other supporters who spend their days trashing Mrs. Clinton.

The undeclared superdelegates should stop their coy posing. With few exceptions, there is no reason left (other than the hope of making back-room deals) for those whose states have voted to keep their positions private. The rest should state their allegiance as soon as their primaries are held in the next few weeks.

There is a lot that Senators Clinton and Obama need to be talking about in coming weeks, starting with how they will extract the country from President Bush’s disastrous Iraq war. A robust debate about health care and the mortgage crisis would remind all American voters of what is at stake in this year’s election. It would also prepare whoever wins the nomination to be a better debater and campaigner in the fall.

We endorsed Mrs. Clinton, and we know that she has a major contribution to make. But instead of discussing her strong ideas, Mrs. Clinton claimed in an interview with USA Today that she would be the better nominee because a recent poll showed that “Senator Obama’s support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again.” She added: “There’s a pattern emerging here.”

Yes, there is a pattern — a familiar and unpleasant one. It is up to Mrs. Clinton to change it if she hopes to have any shot at winning the nomination or preserving her integrity and her influence if she loses.

Actually posted online earlier than the one in the OP, but just found it now and hadn't noticed anyone else posting it.

http://blog.oregonlive.com/elections/2008/05/defazio_throw_his_support_to_o.html

DeFazio throws his support to Obama

Tonight Rep. Peter DeFazio became Oregon's third Democratic congressman to endorse Sen.Barack Obama, putting the Illinois politician one delegate closer to the presidential nomination.

DeFazio said that Obama, who will begin a two-day campaign trip to the state Friday morning, "represents our best chance of winning in November."

"We must not allow Senator McCain to continue the failures of the Bush foreign policy, war in Iraq and disastrous economic policies," DeFazio added.
