ABCNEWS: Obama Now Takes The Lead in Superdelegates Too
Obama Now Takes The Lead in Superdelegates Too
May 09, 2008 6:19 AM

ABC News' Karen Travers Reports: For the first time this campaign season, Barack Obama has surpassed Hillary Clinton's support among superdelegates, according to the ABC News delegate estimate.

Sen. Obama, D-Ill., picked up two superdelegates this morning giving him a new metric to tout in addition to his current commanding leads in pledged delegates, popular votes, states won, and money raised.

Rep. Donald Payne, D-N.J., switched his endorsement from Clinton to Obama and Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., endorsed Obama. DeFazio was previously uncommitted.

With these endorsements, Obama has the support of 267 superdelegates and Clinton has 265 superdelegates.

Every news organization's superdelegate count is a little different because it is an imperfect science. Since October 2007, the Political Unit has continuously reached out to the nearly 800 superdelegates to determine their candidate preference. We also reach out regularly to the Obama and Clinton campaigns for their superdelegate lists and work to confirm any that they include on their lists.

Clinton’s advantage among superdelegates was once massive and has been dwindling steadily since Super Tuesday, when she was ahead by over 60 superdelegates

39. I'd like to take this moment to thank the DUer who asked if I was "the fat lady"
That DUer who got all pissy when I pointed the math out to him...

That DUer, who will forever live on in our memories as "the idiot" who posted about the "HUGE LEAD" Hillary had in Indiana and how that post blew up in his face as a massively K&Red "HA HA" to his face, needs to be thanked.

Hats off to him and his "strong John Edwards supporter" boost for Hillary. As a guy who would have preferred JE to BO I'd like to laugh in his face personally.

Edited on Fri May-09-08 07:52 AM by IWantAnyDem
ABC needs to link to every last endorsement to prove their numbers, just like DemConWatch does.

Until then, the only official numbers we have is Obama 262 Clinton 269.5.

32. The only difference is timing
It isn't rocket science. It is a list of 800+- names. The lists all converge, but there can be a slight lag as the list-keepers compare results and verify. DemConWatch is not the most timely. There are frequently press releases or interviews with SDs that are perfectly clear about their endorsement, yet they are not reflected in DemConWatch for several days. I'm not criticizing DCW. They are doing a great job. But they aren't always the most current.

It is rapidly becoming moot. We have already seen "Peak Clinton". She is now on the back side of 270 SDs with the number going down from here as her supports move to Obama for party unity. It only takes another half dozen of those to effectively shut the game down.

The media has already moved on from "How can she win?" to "Why is she still here?"

34. DemConWatch only updates when it's made OFFICIAL
DemConWatch did not count the three Illinois add-on delegates until Illinois officially named them.

It's that simple.

The key is, many of the MSM sources are counting peopel who have indicated leanings, yet never endorsed. Some are counting add-ons that haven't been added on yet, and as we learned in New Mexico and Maryland, what you think will happen with add-ons isn't necessarily what will happen with add-ons.

DemConWatch is precise. Everybody else is just throwing out an estimate.

44. It may be precise, but it is often 2 days behind
NO big thing. Accuracy is important, but when a SD appears in national media and makes an endorsement, I don't see any reason to wait a couple days for DCW to get around to tallying it.

I can see clearly now
by Johnny Nash

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

I think I can make it now, the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is the rainbow I’ve been prayin for
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

Look all around, there’s nothin but blue skies
Look straight ahead, nothin but blue skies

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

62. PAY Attention
I HAVE TO STRONGLY CAUTION ALL OBAMA SUPPORTERS WHOSE STATES HAVE NOT YET VOTED, PLEASE GET OUT AND VOTE WHEN YOUR VOTING DATE ARRIVES. THE RACE IS NOT OVER, SO DO NOT BUY INTO WHAT THE MEDIA IS SAYING. THEY ARE GIVING OFF A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY.

IF THE MEDIA ARE ABLE TO GET OBAMA'S VOTERS TO STAY AT HOME, WITH THE FALSE SENSE THAT OBAMA HAS ALREADY WON, HILLARY WILL WALK OFF WITH THE NOMINATION, BECAUSE YOU BETTER BELIEVE THAT HILLARY IS TELLING HER SUPPORTERS TO GO OUT AND VOTE.

OBAMA SUPPORTERS, THIS RACE IS NOT DONE UNTIL ALL THE VOTING IN EVERY STATE IS DONE.
SO OBAMA VOTERS GET OUT AND VOTE, NO MATTER WHAT THE MEDIA SAYS, OBAMA NEEDS ALL YOUR VOTES, THIS RACE IS NOT OVER UNTIL ALL THE STATES HAVE VOTED!!!

59. Not for long
Well he did for a second. Hillary just gained some too and is ahead again. Once she gains enough popular votes in WV and then onto KY, she will be ahead by at least 250K votes with more super delegates. KY had 1.6 million voters and she has a 36 point lead in WV and KY. Obama will not catch the magic number of DELEGATES and I will be surprised if he will ever truly lead the Super Delegates. Hillary will prevail in the popular votes along with Super Delegates. Oh and she will get PR. Too many die hard PR supporters in NY still have families in PR as well as Florida. The media just bloats things up. BTW, I'd used to support Obama until I started verifying voting records, measuring policies and had to dig into the quoted lies that the media seem to cover up for him. All the candidates lie, so that argument has been thrown out. Obama tried to pass the gas tax relief 3 times as a Senator. Interesting! Florida has a tax relief during Hurricane season. While it may only save 50 bucks, it equates to 4 hours of pay, of course it depends how much you make an hour. If it is the fed min. wage than it's more hours. Plus, to eliminate tax credits that the Bush/Cheney administration has given to Oil Execs, it a major plus in my book. They make too much off of us and should be taxed the hell out of .
